Gamer sues Bethesda b/c game was too addictive

OMG ! Can I sues HP computers b/c it's addictive too and chocolate companies and everything in stores b/c it could be addictive to me too?

Game addiction, be it gambling or gamer addiction is very veey addicting to some people...and does.destroy lives..

I knew a gamer when i was in the game....his girlfriend.was a customer.
Thus i got to know him.
He spent about the same.she did on gamming a month as she did on junk and blow..close.to 700 bucks....a month...for games and paraphenalia..


I never understood it...

He didnt use drugs...

She did..

To my eyes....and i shook my head...it amounted to close to the same thing.....

Once he lost his job, he lost his junkie chick...and prob had a bad time kickin his gaming hook if he ever did.

Can i explain.how a man, would.spend that much loot and most of his every free waking thought and time gaming?

No.

Not that she was all that, all tracked up, and bruised skin and bones...but still..

In the end..
Addiction. Be it to classical gambing or.the new.gaming which by design targets certain areas of the brain, that allow those suseptible to be easily hooked line and sinker, can.be for many a terible addiction.

The industry is by design, not accedent.

Thus accountibility should be at least explored

If we are going to hold.cartels responsible for the death they cause, and big pharma or big tobacco for theirs...

I see.no reason why the gaming industry should be held.immune

Nor do i play vid games.

I wont deny gambling has and does destroys lives, just because i dont play.
I grew up in. The back stretch of the race track, and thats the reason why i dont gamble,having seen what it does to many.

People have and will lose their entire savings and lives over a long shot...

While its not exactly the same...it actually shares more in common with video game addiction then it does to drug addiction

Where has drug addiction is a complex relation between the body the mind and the chemical administered...

Gambling or gaming is just one of the mind...no forign entity is adminstered...yet
The body changes...
The heart rate raises,
Certain.receptors, are targeted and released,
A rush is very real and very much felt.
The crash is as real as the rush if not more....

If any one has ever known real gamblers
You would know what im signing about....

While I understand where you are coming from and what you are saying; I have to disagree. Sure if pushers did not push there would be less available. But people will smoke, eat/drink, huff, or ect to get high. If there were no pushers people will still be junkies. Nature and man have created to many things on accident and by design that people have found alternative uses for.
Addiction is a funny thing, while I have never been an addict I have watched the process... People can and will get addicted to almost anything. Pushers or no...

Yeah this is why I never started drinking , alcoholic was heavy on my dad's side and I saw what it did to my dad and that was enough to keep me from drinking .

Sadly on this we may not agree... For I have seen it as well... And I do place a large amount of responsibility squarely on the user's shoulders.... Granted I know I am lucky, the roads I have been on say I should be dead or have had a monkey at one time... But regardless of how cold or hungry I have ever been I knew the directions that that escape could and would take... The fact we do not teach accountability as a society is just a greased wheel for the pushers... Tobacco is a large business yet does not have a real pusher...
As for gaming addicts... People can get addicted to any behavior... Our brains are funny that way... But it is or should be the responsibility of the user not the producer... Otherwise where does it end?

Not lost in the smoke and mirrors... Not lost on the fact that people can and are manipulated easily... But... With all of what you said, if we as a society do not teach or expect our citizens to be responsible for their actions they will be no better than childern and never be willing to grow up... But if it is all on the producer than we will end up with everything being banned because people do not take or or not responsible for their self... We ban drugs because they are unsafe and dangerous... Instead of giving the people the right to choose to be safe about it... We ban the sell of 2 liter soda because people buy them and get fat... We sue people for selling hot coffee... We sue people for making something the way it was intended...

Big pharma and the like have a product to sell same as the toy company, book store, cafe, any yeah the pimp and dealer.... These are services that some people enjoy while others cannot handle...

Sadly the skills between a con man and sells men are not different.... But to have true freedom we have to educate our society not control them and their actions... We have gotten so focused on control that we no longer try to educate...

I think it's a combination of things in terms of the above - both the industries and the inidvidual bear some responsibility. So I don't agree with the idea by itself of the gamer in OP article suing the computer manufacturer/industry.

and also the problem is that some people will not question anything or read between the lines - in the case of Big Pharma <of which I count the CI as part>, so many just assume that the medical industry is benign/not caught up playing the game<corporate> and that people with initials behind their name or wearing white coats are out for the interests of the masses....

Nor am i stting or even supporting banning anything.

If i knowing sell wnd push a product that is harmfull, eithr to people or as another example poisons the earth...i can only so fsr use..."its all on them"

I too have karmic ramifications.

There are mutiple levels of responsibility....

Just becuse a.company is a multibillion.dollor multi nation doesnt absolve them of it...
