Seeing as how I like learning about fun and quirky stuff whether it be science, history, etc.... thought I'd start a thread and encourage sharing of facts you've learned.

To start this off I have some facts I learned about farming:

1. Oranges are not native to florida despite popular beliefs. Not only that you can't take an orange seed and grow it in florida, you'll end up with a nasty and sour version of oranges. So what they do is take an existing lemon tree and splice it to the top half of an orange tree.

2. Coffee is not native to south america, it actually was imported from middle east. The reason why coffee is so predominant in south america is due to the rich fields, all year growing season and cheap labor.

Got any to share?

Left handed people are more likely to have allergies, and average 9 years shorter lifespan than right handed people.

I'll second the allergy part-- I have dust and pollen allergies, with dust being the worst one, as one time I touched too much dust, and was sick for a week.

I have allergies to pollen too and I've found as a great preventative measure to take Quercetin starting in february to build up an immunity for the inevitable spring pollen clouds and I keep taking it until the pollen's all gone.

Of course, orange isn't Florida native - it's probably origin from Southeast Asia. Orange was introduced in American by Spaniards in 1500's.

Yes, but I take meds that doesn't allow me to take other kinds of meds for safety reasons (no I am not a danger to anyone-- it's just that my meds are very powerful and closely watched by the DEA.)
