I has been thinking about go there if my mom let me. Fla school for deaf and blind is a good? How is their Education? Do they do plays? I need to know. Please reply soon!

Joey, I mainstreamed to St Augustine High School, for 4 of my classes while attending FSDB. So education is based on your IEP. They have plenty of activites, clubs, and sports. Made so many friends and memories there. :)

I recent learned about St. Augustine from my new friends. Now I really want to go there! But I must not get my hope up because my mom desire me to finish hearing high school because she think deaf school won't get me into colleges. But today, my mom will come over and see me. We will talk. A great talk. I hope my mom finally will say yes. One question, is St Augustine like mainstream but allows us to go there while attending FSDB? Like half classes?

Tell her...

A Deaf guy from a Deaf school went into Princeton.

And yes, see babyblue's post above. You can go to St Augustine High part-time.

Yes. I took English, Algebra, Brittish Lit, and World History for my classes at St Augustine High School for 1st to 4th period, and the rest of my classes were at FSDB.

Nice! I love to hear that! :). But mom could not come today, so tomorrow. ugh lol.

AWESOME! I am SO glad that your experiance at Virginia School didn't sour you on Deaf Schools. From what I understand, FSDB is a really good Deaf School. It is one of the better Deaf Schools out there...and to tell you the truth, we had a mom of a hoh girl post here a few years ago about getting her daughter into FSDB. She had been told " oh it's best to mainstream dhh kids. They don't need deaf schools" or "Deaf Schools are bad" Then she checked out FSDB and was SUPER impressed. Deaf Schools do not have a great reputation,(but they have improved immesely from the old days) but there are some really good programs. They may not get you into say....Harvard, but they will get you into college....especially if you go to a college with a strong academic program.
And yes, everyone is right......Most if not all Deaf Schools offer mainstreaming as an option. It's the best of both worlds!

Oh and tell her that there won't be any hassles with dealign with bad 'terps or clueless mainstream teachers who don't really know anything abt teaching dhh kids. Point out to her that there are kids from Deaf Schools like Hawaii School for the Deaf, Montana School for the Deaf and Blind, RI School for the Deaf and other smaller or schools that serve mostly multihandicapped kids, who go to NTID or Gally....and there are Deaf Schools where kids end up at University of Texas Austin, University of Maryland and other competive colleges

My son had no problem getting into college after going to a deaf school. And neither did 80% of his classmates. In fact, a student from a deaf school is far more prepared for the college experience than a deaf student from the mainstream in my experience.

FSDB dormitory smell like Military Hospital, but overall it is a huge campus.

YEAH!!!!!! I think you will have an AWESOME time!!!!!! The larger Deaf Schools tend to be a lot more diverse...like a lot of hoh kids and orally skilled and CI and HA kids.

Enjoy your experience at FSDB! I have so many friends who graduated from there and all of them had great experiences. Sure, there were some ups and downs..just like any other schools.

The most important thing is that YOU are happy!

Thank you folks! :). I will move to Fla in about one or two weeks and live with my Grandparents. I know one of my childhood friend that actually goes there! I'm sure I will have a good time!

FSDB is a great Deaf school. My friends and I visited there during their homecoming weekend in 1990 or 1991 and we had great time. I met many friends from this school at Gally and several of them were close. A couple of them ended up with a law degree later and I think one of them is a lurker here.

Congrataulation! I am sure you will do real well there. :)

wow that is so fast. important if you feel that those courses are so easy. you can always ask for the solid academic education. I am so sure that others who are in the same boat as you do. Like I kept asking for more courses while I was in deaf school over 20 years ago.
