Freedom Implant rubbing

Moleskin is great. I found it at our neighborhood Walgreens. It's very cheap. I cut a small piece and just attached it to my ear, it stays for a week.

Try it, it works.

I did have this issue shortly after I was implanted but now I have become used to it. Would be quite nice if the technology got smaller to where the whole external CI is only in the coil, no BTEs or cords/wires, nothing but the coil, so I'd have nothing to hang on my ears, though. Maybe that will happen someday. I hope so.

Sometimes I put a piece of paper towel between the ear hook and my skin if I am at home where no one sees me. Otherwise I pretty much put up with it but I might try the moleskin option, though. Someone said it can be found at Walgreens, so I will look at my neighborhood Walgreens and see if they have it. I'm not sure there is a Walgreens in the UK though.

How cheap is the moleskin, Vallee?

AB's body worn has nothing on the ears. Med-el also has a number of wearing options that are not on the ear.

Yeah. I don't think I realized that about the AB when I was deciding between the AB and the Nucleus Freedom and I chose the Freedom back in 2006. No regrets, though. I still think I made the right choice as I am quite happy with how I am hearing with the Freedom. Med-El is not offered at my CI clinic for some reason, but I didn't care because I did not like the design at all anyway. I took one look and, ick. Looks so...blocky, if you understand what I mean? I know that isn't important to some people but, that was a design I have not seen of most hearing aids therefore the designs of the AB and the Freedom was more nicer and has a more natural shape that goes well with the shape of the area behind the ear as that was a shape I was more used to from having been a former HA user.

It's not really a huge deal, though. I do like my Freedom very much. I am rather happy with it.

Maybe Cochlear will come out with a new generation that has the coil and the bodyworn but with nothing to hang on the ear between the coil and the bodyworn box in a few years, just one long cord from the coil to the bodyworn. We'll see. But I highly doubt Medicare and Medicaid would go for a upgrade, though.

Thanks for the information, though, Faire. :)

I have them too djchur , they're comfortable..but lately I lean more to wear the CI on shoulder with a long 30 inch coil...

30 inch??? I 'd love to have that coil but i thought they only do up to 28cm..... :hmm:

Wish they could make extra long coils so adults could wear BTE on shoulders like kids do.

The cochlear body worn have processor on the ear with boot attached to it for the box, similar to baby worn, this could be another alternative as the BTE would be lighter.

We don't have walgreens in UK sadly.... umm trying to think of alternative similar to walgreens.. :hmm:

I don't think that buying moleskin is expensive if you ask for "sample!" :D

Thanks for the information, and i didn't know that med el has lots of opitions, Faire jour.

It would be nice to have just coil as external CI! I think they are rethinking on freedom body to make it slimmer but same number of batteries so no go there as there would still be weight issues... Did you know that they do mini BTE? it uses 2 batteries and no jack for accessories (no good if we use our accessories alot)

 on papertowel comment... good idea.

Charlotte , it's the same..30 inches are 28 cm..and I use the long coil and I wear it onto my shoulder..and I can turn my head etc..it's very nice..see my pics on FB...I don't at all regret getting it that way...

Umm... 30 inches is 76 cm.... 11 inches is 28 cm....

also, AB is coming out with alternative powering options for their BTEs.. similar to the battery pack that you can get with the Auria processor. So it's just the processor sitting behind the ear (which would be less weight for the ear to put up with) and the battery pack is somewhere else (shirt pocket, etc.). I'm quite excited about this tidbit, knowing how sensitive my ears can be to weighted stuff haha.

Yeah, I knew about the mini BTEs but I chose the regular BTEs as they have a place to plug my mp3 player in. I wanted to be able to do that. And there doesn't seem to be really that big of a difference in the sizes of the mini and the regular BTEs, they're only slightly smaller.
