McDonald's Corp plans to offer free Wi-Fi service at most of its U.S. restaurants, starting on January 15, a spokeswoman said on Monday.

The largest U.S. fast-food chain had previously said it would provide free Wi-Fi at some point in early 2010 but had not given a date.

A McDonald's spokeswoman told Reuters that free Wi-Fi will be available at about 11,500 out of its 14,000 locations.

The company currently offers Wi-Fi for a rate of $2.95 for two hours, she said.

You can bring your P3 netbook or notebook to use videochat. :)

The McDonald's near my house charges to connect to the Wifi, unless you're cheap like me and found the right spot to connect for free. :giggle:

Around here, McDonald's and Burger King both have had free WiFi since we moved back from Missouri (7 months).

I think any place where you can sit down for awhile should have free WiFi. Even places where you can't cause people have PDA devices. Email is the new phone. Businesses should accommodate that. And I think nowadays it's just tacky to charge for Wifi, especially for big companies like Barnes & Noble and Starbucks.

Oh, and I don't think it should be AT&T only!

That would be nice for me since my son loves to play at McDonald's playland so I can take him and keep myself amused by logging onto AD through my netbook. :) all free...why not? Just have to avoid ordering foods there for myself..lol

Nice for many old people to hang out there and keep them warm inside and drinking coffee. That mcdonald is near by where the senior community homes are.

Some of the McDonald are not offering free wifi anymore and you have to call the 800 number on the website when you are connect to wifi to get free coupon number to log in.

For my work I travel daily and stop at McDonalds for their wifi access, one of the manager told me that AT&T charges them when their customer use the wifi so not all McDonald want to pay for it and they tell customer to call the toll free number to get the coupon code.

I asked manager how does a Deaf person call a toll-free number at McDonald, and he look at for a moment and then said "I don't know"

I know we can use AIM relay but not every Deaf person own a PDA.

I wonder if this will attract customers who will sit around surfing on the Internet for long periods of time. They will be occupying tables that eating customers would have been using. They won't be able to do the same amount of business.

On the flip side, more customers may be willing to sit down in a McDonald's because of the free WiFi.

Would check on computer or laptop via wi-fi if they have proxy to allow to get in porn site.

January 18th has happened. Looks like I'm going to have to re-evaluate the Wi-Fi situation. :P

All of the McD's here in town and in the outer areas now have signs on the doors and windows advertising their free WiFi.

Our libraries have the free WiFi, but screening in place an you can't go to porno sites. Thank God since son takes my netbook to the library.
