Ford tried rip off a deaf lady.

Can you translate for us non Americans? I can understand some but not all

Service shops have a bad reputation of ripping people off in general.

Surprised, to see that the repo man showed up at her door the next day. She must have really made them mad. :giggle:

deafteen i will try and type everything she said for you tonite :) hopefully i will get most of it right cuz i never been good at that lol.

I'm also curious about what she is saying. I haven't taken ASL yet (will start next month). If you can translate and post it I would appricate it. THanks

I understood a majority of it, but there are certainly sections that I'm missing something....

The general gist I get is that her car wasn't working and it should have been covered under the warranty as it wasn't over 70,000 miles. The guy at the service shop did some fixin and then told her she had to pay, she thought she didn't but basically was like "well.... ok" and paid, but the car still wasn't fixed and she took it back and the guy fixed it up some more and told her she needed to pay, and she said no and left. From there, I think what happened is she looked up in the car manual what the warranty policy is, and found it says up to 70,000 miles. So she called the head guy of Ford and basically told him what was up, he checked his computer and didn't see anything about her "case", and she was like "I gots da paper here!" so he called the Ford shop and was going over it with them and they were like "yeah, she was here" and he was like "well why the F isn't in my computer? When someone comes in there you have to put it into your system b**ches! You need to fix her car RIGHT NOW and she won't pay a CENT!". They called me back and said they called the manager and boss of the service shop, and they said oh we're so sorry yadda yadda. She thought they were really taking advantage of her because she's deaf and she'll just do whatever they tell her, and that ain't right. Well, the next day the car was running great, but guess what? The repo man showed up and said you didn't pay to get your car fixed up! She was like, hey I have my receipt here that shows everything, and was like "nope doesn't count gimme da car!" and she was like "hang on a sec..." closed the door and called the cops. Then she heard him bangin tryin to get her truck out of her garage, and he was yellin that her truck should be parked on the sidewalk (that may be entirely wrong....), anyway she called the cops and explained it wasn't a real emergency, but was having some problems. 4 cops showed up, but the repo guy was gone. She explained what happened, they got everything together. (this next part I'm not quite sure on...) Sooo, the next day she finished paying something....missed this entire thing, can't really understand it.... but some guy asks her where is the man who ______, she says one or two blocks down the street from my house. **Turns out it wasn't really a repo guy at all, it was a fake one! So the cops go there and give the guy a ticket for trying to break into her garage and take her car.

That's mostly what I get...... would be great if someone has the time to do a detailed translation!

**Thanks to Sequoias for that tidbit.... I thought the sign of the X off the nose was "trick" or variation of "false", but wasn't sure.

I agree with that a lot. My parents hearing and I know they have been taken advantage by repair shops. Also my older daughter is hearing and was ripped off.

That's interesting story she shared with us. That was really crazy what the dealer and the "fake repo" guy thing. I don't allow them to fool me over things that aren't right.

I've been servicing my truck with a Ford dealer for years. One of my preferred service advisor is always nice to me and very understandable. He would tell me what you would need, what you don't need now, or you can get this later on etc. While other service advisor would tell me about the mechanic suggestion, I politely declined and other days I would come to my preferred service advisor and ask for his opinion. If there is any thing that really needs attention he would note it for me. So those times I go there for just routine maintenance, and never had a problem on my end.

So it depends on where the garage shop you go to. Some will do rip off, some are nice/good reputation. It varies everywhere, of course you don't always trust the shop mechanic, what they tell you that something needs attention for example, the coolant needs flushing, but you decline it, and come home to check yourself, and turns out to be fine. Sometimes the mechanic suggestion is unnecessary. So What I do before I drop my truck off for oil change and preventive maintenance, I check my fluids, and visual inspection around. It only takes a little of your time, maybe 10-15 mins to check the cars.

Those sites below are a good example to check before you drop your car off at the shop for repair or service. Know ahead of time before the mechanic would try to make money by suggesting an unnecessary work.

Car check list before a long trip (not necessary long trip, but good example)

This article has a good suggestion below:

Put your mechanic in check - automobile mechanics

Let your mechanic know you're looking for a long-term "relationship." Choose a shop that will work with you and become familiar with your vehicle. Remember, a good mechanic spots trouble before it becomes expensive and keeps you informed about your car's needs. That's far different from the unscrupulous mechanic who will try to get you to pay for unnecessary repairs.

Look for signs indicating membership in trade organizations. Those from the BBB, Automotive Service Association (ASA) and, for crash repair, Inter-Industry Conference on Auto Collision Repair (I-CAR) indicate repair shops that are probably professional, responsible businesses in the community. Most importantly, look for mechanics trained by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE). Such technicians actually pass tests in specific areas and requalify every five years. You will almost always see them proudly display their certificates and wear a shoulder patch on their uniforms.

Don't always go for the lowest price--consider quality, too. The best shop is the one that does quality work the first time and delivers on a promise. Talk to other customers who are waiting for their cars. Ask if they regularly visit the shop. Return customers are good signs.

Get a second opinion, particularly for expensive repairs. Once you get an itemized estimate from one shop, take your car to another shop. Without mentioning the first diagnosis, see if the second mechanic discovers the same problems and the same solutions. This allows you to compare costs and the amount of time it's going to take to get them done. Before allowing anyone to examine your car, ask if there is a fee to evaluate the car even if you don't commit to the work.

I hope this helps and to keep your vehicles healthy as best possible :)

That's so sad but not just for Ford, it does happen to other services as well.

I have the exactly same experiences as like the lady's situation in the video. It was horrible. I hate getting ripped off by repairmen, or other people.. why are they doing like this to us?? I was like WTF?! Huh Taking advantage of us... no fair though. It sucks. :ty: Thanks for sharing with us. I have learned something from this video. I will start calling whenever something's not right.

Mean people suck! I only caught a portion of it, thanks pathymo for filling in the blanks :D

I'm glad that she explained at the end that we should call and check to be sure that we still have Warranty (powertrain warranty) for vehicle before sending it to shop. So that Shop won't play game on us deafie.

She's wise enough to call Ford co to find out about warranty ect after she found out shop was trying to take advantage of her money. Also the guy who came to her house with tow truck trying to repo'd her truck were playing games. That's one scary thing that company can do to play revenge on their customers But in return, they'll get bigger trouble for "conspiracy" act.

I personally don't like Ford, had bad experience with Ford for many years (I don't own it but my parents does and also friends too).

I'm just a Dodge/Chevy guy. :giggle:

I too will double check to be sure if my Jeep and Durango still have warranty if in case Powertrain failure (Powertrain is Engine, Transmission, Shaft, and Axle).
