For you, dear HearAgain

oh man.... I'm not sure if I wanna know what's your medicine chest is like

Joking aside Jiro, I can relate with Hear Again about the Rx because I do have similar medications as she does have.

I appreciate Hear Again's candid honesty because she educates others that I feel needs to be educated.

The Rx I take is a lot and is a real PITA to carry around. It is also a burden because some people will assume that I am a druggie when I'm not.

That's what I hate as well. Sorry that I implied such thing but I was attempting to lighten up the mood. I guess that was an epic fail on my part

:laugh2:

I'll be honest with you because I have nothing to hide.

I take 5 meds for my bipolar, 2 meds for migraines and 4 meds for allergies/asthma.

As you can imagine, that totals to well over $2,000/month for meds but fortunately I have Medicaid, so my co-pay is low.

Mrs. Bucket,

I can relate to being accused of being a druggie.

I can't count the number of people (friends) who ask me why I'm on so many meds and if they are all necessary.

My bipolar meds are necessary because each of them address certain symptoms. Without any one of them, I can start to hear voices, become delusional and extremely paranoid -- not to mention severely manic or severely depressed. I take one med called Klonopin which helps control my rapid cycling due to bipolar. It also reduces my anxiety and extreme agitation. Many people think that benzos are addictive. They can be, but I'm on a very low dose and always make sure to take the lowest dose possible at all times. My psychiatrist has given me a treatment plan for which I am to take a certain amount of Klonopin when I'm rapid cycling, manic or anxious.

My migraine meds are also a necessity since I average 3-4 migraines/week without them.

My allergy/asthma meds are also needed for obvious reasons.

Asthma can be life-threatening and my GP told me it's a miracle nothing has happened to me so far without being treated.

:ty: Mrs. Bucket. That's part of the reason why I'm so open and honest about my bipolar. I know there are some people who would rather not hear about it, but I've received a number of PMs from ADers who appreciated the experiences I've shared and have asked questions on behalf of themselves or a loved one. If someone doesn't want to read about my bipolar, they are more than welcome to put me on their ignore list.
Me discussing bipolar is no different than anyone here talking about ASL, CIs or other topics that have to do with deafness. Granted, AD is not a mental health board, but where I feel discussing my bipolar is appropriate or related to a given thread, I will share my comments accordingly.
