Food stamps at restaurants?

When I was on food stamps, I would go to the butcher and buy meat there. It was cheaper to buy the meat in bulk, and it also helped the local market. I also used my food stamps at the Farmers Market.

Not sure if you can buy a live animal with food stamps and raise it yourself. Since it takes alot of feed and medication such as wormer and antibiotics to keep the livestock healthy.

I was just talking about that... No idea.

I remember Fuddruckers used to have hanging carcass of beef hanging in their windows behind the counters where burgers were served. I guess enough people felt sick looking at this that they stopped doing that anymore.

I was just being silly..I am sure many people dont even know how to butcher live animals or dont even want to.

Yea, I agree with the meat at a butcher being cheap. That's where my hubby and I go to buy our meat. Also, it tastes more delicious!

Butcher live animals? It's be much easier to butcher dead animals!

It's ironic that people couldn't look at what they had no problem eating.

It is ridiculous...I am not on food stamps and I have a job but I can barely afford to go out eat at restaurants these days. Hell no to this!

I think I have to say No too. Using food stamps to eat out mean a famliy will have less food stamps to buy decent food for the famliy . Food stamps where not meant for people go out and buy a meal .

Oh boy - this is a tough one. My boyfriend's family is dirt dirt poor and they survive on food stamps. They are always running out before the month ends and then they would subsist literally on bread and scraps until they get more stamps. It's a very tough way to live and I think it would have done them a lot of good if they could go out and have a nice meal once a month. There are plenty of nice restaurants that are not expensive nor necessarily any more fattening than food one eats at home unless we're talking about fast food franchises, of which in my opinion, is not real food.

Then again, if they spent $30 on a meal, that's $30 worth of groceries they would have to go without and I don't think they can afford to do so.

You're wrong, if you spend $30 for at restaurant you get only one meal! If you spend the same $30 at grocery store you could get 2 meal. If your boyfriend ate out they would be running out food stamps a lot faster.

I can make at least 4 or 5 meals out of 30 dollars at home. My average grocery bill is about 60 dollars a week. It could be even less if I weren't such a caffinee fiend.

I personally feel that food stamps/payment cards should be provided along side info on how cook and buy food that will last the month.

I've seen people using their cards at the cornor stores, buying sodas, chips, cand bars, etc. Do I like that? NO...

I don't like it either. I just about lost it when my boyfriend's sister had to ask me to pay for diapers for her baby because she used her foodstamp card to pay for junk food from the Dollar General. Every night she came home with candy, junk food and soda pop and yet her baby had to wear the same diaper for two days. I was so mad I couldn't speak.

Well, I don't think Food Stamps can be used to buy diapers. Since it's part of the "paper/plastic products"....Cash assistance could. Some parents to this day, use cloth diapers to save $$.

People on Food Stamps, (and without Cash Assistance), can't buy toilet/towel paper, shampoo, soap, toothpaste etc. Only FOOD!...I remmy a friend used to take rolls of toilet paper from bathrooms home with her becuz they couldn't afford to buy it.

If you ask me, I think the Food Stamp program needs to be revamped. There are some necessary products that people have to use daily.

Maybe rules are different in alabama? maybe times have changed. i remember when my mother had food stamps, they were like actual stamps but green and you would tear them out from sheets.

that girl i was talking about - she can use her foodstamp card to pay for gas for her car. that surprised me.
