Water: Monsanto Moves In By 2008
Source: Vandana Shiva, The Hindu, May 1 1999

Monsanto expects revenues of $420 million and a net income of $63 million from its new commercial activity area: water. According to the company's Robert Farley, the move into the water business forms part of the company's strategy to consolidate through the entire food chain: "Since water is as central to food production as seed is, and without water life is not possible, Monsanto is now trying to establish its control over water."

To enter the water business, Monsanto has acquired an equity stake in Water Health International (WHI), with an option to buy the rest of the business. In a joint venture with Tata/Eureka Forbes, Monsanto is targeting market access to fabricate, distribute and service water systems. The company has opted for a joint venture strategy in order "to achieve management control over local operations but not have legal consequences due to local issues." The private sector arm of the World Bank, the International Finance Corporation (IFC) has apparently stated its interest in Monsanto's activities.

By 2010, around 2.5 billion people worldwide are expected to lack access to safe drinking water, while at least 30% of the populations of China, Mexico and India are expected to face severe water stress.

Can you believe that, eh? *THUD* I have no idea what is goin' to happen if, there's goin' to charge for a glass of water and usin' drinkin' water at home in 5 or 10 years from now. Isn't it what the bible says that it already happened? In it, it says that people will die from drinkin' that poison water.

Ok, now i could be totaly wrong (but i never am) but back in the 1970's this was added to the water to everyone not in the freak states. By freak states i mean alaska and hawaii. I havnt really seen anything unsafe about it, our teath are suposidly stronger for it since it was deamed that there are no health risks associated with it, or why would the FDA let a law go out saying it is to be added to all drinking water?

Without gettin' a clean and pure water, people will get sick from it in despite of chlorine, arsenic, fluroide, leads or what eva people name it. Why would all the stores have their water bottles ? Why don't they start it in 10 or 20 years ago ? It obviously that there must be sumfin' wrong with the water where people drinks. I remma when I was a little girl, I don't see any water bottles that were sellin' at the stores until years later ! :-o

BTW, what do you mean about callin' Alaska and Hawaii "freak" states ?

FYI: Just because its in a bottle doesnt mean its any better for you. Coke has some in England, they admited its basicly tap water people are paying over 1 dollar a bottle for. 2ndly, they are the freak states.

I believe drinking water in the first world countries are basically safe.

As for the water bottles sold in stores, that is for people's convience for when they travel, and also for the companies to profit from it.
