A little piece of bedrock is up for sale in Hillsborough.

The unusual Flintstone House, perched on a hillside overlooking Interstate 280, just hit the market with Alain Pinel Realtors and the rumored price is $4.2 million.

The amorphous house that looks as if it were made of giant marshmallows is a Bay Area landmark that kids love to point out as their parents drive by.

With three bedrooms and two baths, the 2,730-square-foot abode last sold in September 1996 for $800,000, according to Zillow.

The house was designed by architect William Nicholson and built in 1976 to experiment with new building materials and techniques. Nicholson’s team sprayed concrete onto wire mesh frames and giant inflated balloons to create a bubble look. The home fell into disrepair in the 1980s and underwent a remodel in the 2000s.

Disappointed to see it go, and hopefully the other homeowners keep the style. I see it all the time when driving on hwy 280.

Fred and Wilma must have decided a move from Bedrock to the Bay Area was a bad idea.

The unusual Hillsborough abode that locals call the Flintstone House hit the market in September, and the folks over at SocketSite noticed the listing was recently pulled from the MLS with no record of sale.

Alain Pinel Realtors originally listed the property at 45 Berryessa Way with a price of $4.2 million, and SFGate reached out to confirm the home is no longer on the market. We haven't heard back.

yep Fred and Wilma with daughter Pebbles and pet Dino. Friends were Barney and Betty and son Bamm-Bamm. I think they had a pet too but can't remember the name for the life of me.

Wow... well I wonder if they changed their minds too because the cost of living and housing costs have skyrocketed in the Bay Area more than it has where they live now....

Update and correction: Yesterday, we reported that the MLS for the Flintstone House was pulled. This morning, we heard from Alain Pinel realtor Judy Meuschke and she explained that the MLS expired and has been extended. The Flintstone House is still on the market. We made changes to the story below to reflect this new information.

Fred and Wilma ought to make a move from Bedrock to the Bay Area.

The unusual Hillsborough abode that locals call the Flintstone House hit the market in September at $4.2 million, and Alain Pinel realtor Judy Meuschke is still looking for a buyer.

Yesterday, SocketSite noticed the listing was recently pulled from the MLS with no record of sale and reported that the house was no longer on the market.

Meuschke said this isn't true.

"The MLS automatically drops listings when the listing expiration date occurs," Meuschke explained in an email. "45 Berryessa was off the MLS for a couple of days. The listing expiration date has been extended and the seller never intended to take the house off the market. The house is still available and active status."

This is one of a kind of house. It's almost like holy grail of all houses resembling cartoon characters. The right buyer will come forward. I wouldn't hurry and sell it if I was the owner.

SFGATE first reported on 45 Berryessa going on the market in September 2015 for $4.2 million. The price was cut to $3.78 million in February 2016, and slashed again in July 2016 to $3.2 million. Months later SFGATE reported that the iconic home was listed on Airbnb for $750 a night while continuing to be up for sale.

More than a year and a half after hitting the market, the house has potential buyers. It's unknown what they offered as this information doesn't become public until the deal closes.

It's taken them a long time. Seems like the price is over-inflated.
