You? What do you mean? You didn't start this thread so you can't lock it.

Actually I did. Look who it belongs to. I was the one who found the topic.

They got merged. I Don't Have Any Say Over This.

what if it is an ancient pebble? A really, really old one?
All rocks are the same age, whether they're pebbles or boulders.

They can be modified over time but their time on earth is all the same.

Someone, somewhere, is saying "respect mah authoritah!!" and just pushing their weight around is all ...

Reminds me of the Mexican youth that was gunned down, across the border, in Mexice, because he threw rocks at a US Customs officer. Were those rocks protected under parks and recreation department laws? Is that why the youth was given an immediate death sentence?

So, if I pick up a rock from a State park, and take it home .. is that theft?
In some cases, yes. In a lot of parks I have visited, if you picked one small flower, gave it to your wife, you could be charged.

The laws may be exorbitant. I think that is the case here. However, as I understand the judicial system, they are likely trying to get these guys to admit guilt, probably to a lesser charge. Like an auction, start high and hope for the best final price.

What about asteroids?

Yes, it how it works... whoever started the thread first is the original, the duplicate is merged with the original. Say the OP started the thread at 8:30am and ChicagoBlue started at 1pm... I just merge with the original thread and is in order with the time posted.

Those guys were Boy Scout leaders, and knew the consequences. They were responsible for teaching Boy Scouts youth to respect nature, but they chose to violate those Leave No Trace ethics and morals. I'm glad they are expelled from their positions. They should contact Park Rangers in the first place one of those hoodoos was at risk. I've been to the parks all the time. Park Rangers usually set up the yellow tape or fence around the area to keep those tourists away for safety reasons. Sometimes, one of the park rangers guard it to make sure no one sneaks into the area. I've personally witnessed several of them sneaking into the area where they shouldn't go. Ridiculous. Park Rangers get frustrated with them all the time.

I've been to the Goblin State park. It's amazing. I totally recommend anyone should go there and appreciate the nature. I'm not concerned about the consequences of a fallen rock. Any Geologist would tell you that those rocks would eventually fall due to wind and wet conditions.

I'm not familiar with Utah felony laws. I read somewhere that rock was valued at $1,500 to $5,000. Prosecutors mentioned those charges could range from misdemeanor to second class felony. *shrugs*

Depends. If you return a rock, they won't press charges against you. Actually, Park Rangers usually receive mails from tourists around the world they apologize for stealing them. Some of those tourists are superstitious believing that taking any object from a park could lead to consequences and bad luck. True story.

never said there's a free lunch.

I see a pattern of you making us do the work for you. we both know why. cuz it's game over for you. why? cuz your line of reasoning and logic have failed. you continue to hoot like an owl with same line instead of answering our questions.

The pattern you so astutely see jiro. Is the pattern of me asking those like you who call and demand something at least. Know the costs

I know. I know.
I'm expecting to much of you

why aren't you being responsible by doing your own homework?

Its not my homework to know the cost of what you demand and call for.

Given the current national debt. Of your nation. I'm not suprised in your above statement though

Makes sense all things considered

Maybe there should be a documentary made about this? They can use the Rolling Stone's I know it's only rock n roll but I like it when the ending credits start.
