WASHINGTON -- Indications are that meat from cloned animals is about to be cleared for the human food supply.

The announcement from the Food and Drug Administration could come as soon as Thursday.

Federal scientists said there's no difference between food from cloned animals and food from conventional livestock.

The FDA also believes that no special labels are needed for food from clones or their offspring. But consumer groups said labels are a must, because surveys have shown people to be uncomfortable with the idea of cloned livestock.

And there will be calls for food companies and supermarkets to refuse to sell food from clones.

Final approval of cloned animals for food is months away; before then the public will have a chance to comment.

FDA To Approve Food From Cloned Animals - Health

I've heard it on the news. The FDA says that it don't need to be label. Well, I got news for them, I'm not eating any meat if it don't have label on to shows if it's cloned meat or not. I wouldn't be surprise that alot of people won't eat them.

:eek3: I'm with Mecooncat on this, If no label, then I aren't buying it either....

Cloned meats ? Eww - that's nasty to think about it comin' from the lab. First, they added pesticide, antibotic and hormone and now this.

Best to remain a vegetarian on a safe side, period.

It's understandable when the natural (sudden) response to something entirely different...as it is with this.

I do agree however it would best serve the public, the consumer the benefit of knowing if such packaged meat went through the process of cloning. However, I'm somewhat straddling on a fence when it comes to actually consuming a 'cloned' product such as meat. It's my understanding that a 'cloned' animal is an exact (identical) counterpart of a living and naturally-borned one. On the 'plus' side, with a worldwide shortage of food, wouldn't this be one way to help combat the wide-spread shortage? It could, the whole process may be an astounding contributing factor during this day, and age...in the face of 'hunger/starvation'. But, that, is another entirely different 'issue' which can be further discussed in another thread. ;)

So, bottom line, it would be indeed wiser and affirmative to provide 'labels' on packaged meat that have been under the process of cloning.

Yeah, you are right about the worldwide shortage of food, but - gee, don't you want to see people eatin' the " plastic " cloned meats ? I just can't imagine how the people would eat plastic meats. I am sure some people would prefer " natural " grow meats rather than " plastic " meats that are comin' from the lab ( a man-made ). To me, they are playin' God and there will be severe consequences. Speakin' of the shortage of food, I am sure there's another way to grow natural meats. Scientists aren't that stupid.

Of course, a " label " is a MUST. I agree ........

As I had stated:

It is not safe for vegetarians either: :(

I said this same thing as you as I realized, there is going on with MAD cow feces plant on the vegetable to grow. Spinach is really scare, which killed three people and made roughly 200 very sick, lead to massive recalls and the rapid changing of recipes everywhere. Oh, well, these things happen Lettuce, spinach, tomatoe and green onion become the bacteria move, where they live, and how they reproduce. Food can become contaminated in many ways or places traveling from farm. E-coli outbreak everywhere now.

How could we trust the FDA nowadays? FDA apparently does not care for us because they want to sell more the clone meat at the supermarket. Just the same idea with vegetables become more bacteria.

Telling me that an E-coli outbreaks hurt anyone doesn't make me feel much better. Who wants to eat a MAD cow's poop? We need to soaking and rinsing routine is enough to keep things clean on the vegetables before we eat them. Mostly eliminates bugs and not much else, and that eating a bug now and again won't harm anyone.

Food are making us sick everyday at the restruants, supermarket, friend's or relative's houses, etc... We can't reject those food.

Twenty years later, we may eat most of the food from NASA. Only eat one meal a day instead of three without any worry about starve or gain weigh. :D

I would be not surprise, twenty years later - we will be not cooking any in the pans on the stove. :eek3:

Maybe, true. I know it is very hard to make the decision which one is more safer. Maybe, it would be a good idea if we could grow our own vegetables and have hens to hatch the healthy eggs without antibotic/hormone.... and, have our own farm ( cows, goats, etc., etc. ) ? Could you afford to own a farm ? lol I couldn't afford one unless, if I am a millionaire then, I wouldn't mind to own one. :)

You know what I am thinkin' ? I am concerned about the food shortage ... what IF, they sell dead people's bodies as meats ? Maybe, they wouldn't tell people about it, hmm ? Just like they say it is not necessary to have labels on cloned meats. It could be anythin', really and I don't trust FDA, either. They just scared me.

Dead people's bodies as meats?????? Run for your lives!!! :run:

I really do not know what to think of this issue of cloned meats. Things are just becoming to weird lately..

Dead people's bodies? :eek3: ....I think I'm going to get sick here....:barf:

I am still somewhat skeptical about the cloned meats issue. I do agree however there are going to be some food shortages and the cloning could be a big help (That also can be discussed in another thread) but - yet - I had to wonder, Would the cloned meats have the same proteins as the meat has to offer? Would it have the same taste as the meat does? There are so many questions that needs to be asked and answered. I do realize that the cloned meats on the market is still fairly new to the public and I just hope that the FDA realize that it's going to make an impact on the public either good or bad. Only time will tell.

It has been bother me alot. There is no label on the meat supermarket if it is clone meat?

Yup, you are right about things are gettin' weird lately. Speakin' of dead people's bodies as meats... it could happen in the near future, maybe in 20 years later or so when there's no more animal meats left due to diseases and other things such as bird flu, etc., etc. There's also talkin' about " overpopulation " that need to get rid of. There's too many things goin' on around the world.

Yeah, I still refused to take " cloned " meats. I usually eat chicken, fish, and turkey but, now they are talkin' about cloned meats... gee, it would make me to think twice about buyin' chicken and turkey.

I don't support " clone " thing.

Oh god, I don't want to know about that!

From now on, I might as well raise my own animals and garden. At least I know what's in it. I've always canned and freeze veggies and meat, pork and poultry.
