FCC Propose to Expand lifeline for Internet Service

Oh well, I don't mind if low-income people get lifeline as long as it's DSL service.

Should get all cable and DSL service. Low income people want VP but high speed internet price is too high.

Sounds more fair, Deafies depends on Internet far more than phone itself. Hope they go forward on their decision.

Are you aware that USPS still hires deaf people but deaf people don't want to apply? Why? They prefer SSI so they don't need to work. Do they deserve a lifeline? Sure, let them have a DSL service for $10 or less per month.

What does this have to do with this thread? It is about access, aren't you aware that many hearing people taking advantage of lifeline programs? My hearing son has it, he does not have to pay much for the service... These are available BUT not Deaf friendly, because Deaf depends on broadband than hearing people does, hearing people don't need broadband to be able to have a decent conversations. Is it fair for Deaf people to pay MORE to get same service as hearing people get?

Like my service, very expensive Verizon Data only plan, you could get unlimited calling plan easy, but with Data, I don't have unlimited Data plan, damn Hearing people got unlimited voice plan... grrrr!

I re-read the link. Oh, FCC proposes $9.25 reimbursement on either broadband or phone service for low-income people who are eligible. In other words, eligible customers can't get $9.25 off for each service. For example, s/he gets $9.25 off for the phone service, then there would be no discounts for broadband service so s/he has to make a choice for which service they want a discount.

The proposal Thursday does not seek to increase that $9.25 reimbursement and would keep in place the limit of one subsidy per household, meaning eligible customers could either spend it on broadband or phone service.
