"Faster than speedlimits"

I guess mine is too wimpy to be mentioned. I don't like speed much, but I was running late and about 18 years ago, I was pulled for doing 50 in a 30 in a residential neighborhood. Cost me $368, then not 6 months later, I was out on the highway, in the middle of sugar cane fields and doing 58 in a 55 MPH zone and got a $568 since it was the 2nd in a year. Only one other since then and that was just 4 years ago and I was doing 45 in a 30 and that one cost $98. That's the difference from Florida and Missouri. Florida was expensive.

Don't most cars (in America) have shut off mechanism, once you hit a certain speed??

Maybe you're thinking of a speed limiter/governor? It doesn't shut off the car but it prevents the vehicle from going above a certain speed. Their common use is on school buses.

If the car does have a speed limiter, usually it's the enthusiasts/self proclaimed car buffs whom will attempt to remove it.

These are usually the same people who are speeding, just a guess. :dunno:

I read that the limiter is set pretty high, beyond what the tires can support so, theoretically, no one would drive a street car up to the limit anyway. :dunno:

My friend was caught speeding at 101 mph in a 75 mph zone and was fined $125 and thats in rural area of Idaho. He didnt lose the license. :dunno:

State Traffic and Speed Laws

This link tells different states and what would lose a license. I think Iowa is possible just for 25 over the speed limit, and for sure if going 100mph or over.

Yea, +25 over the limit in Iowa sounds about right. I was told how strict the speed cops are here. I have to go at the limit in many small towns.

My car has a speed governor set to 113 mph, probably due to the tire limits but some tires for the car can go faster than that. I have never gone that fast and the fastest was about 100 mph once or twice for a few seconds.

Yeah... It is on newer cars also. I think it is when it hits around 90 or 100. It actually causes the speed to drop.. not shut off the car.. it just temporary shuts down the accelerator.

it's an arrestable offense in my state

In the state of Arkansas you will have your vehicle impounded and possibly face jail time, but I don't think you actually lose your license until you have accrued 13 or more points on your driving record. Depending on the severity of the offense you get x amount of points put on your record. For every year that you go without an offense, one point is removed from your driving record. I have an uncle that has received a letter from the State Police reminding him that driving in Arkansas is a privilege and can be revoked if traffic laws are not obeyed.

 $568 for 3mph over the limit? That sucks.

 368 for 20 over... Damn. My last ticket was about 250 for doing 96 in a 55 zone. Its been too many years to remember the 120 mph ticket but it wasn't 368. Thats it I am never moving to florida. But I have never liked that state anyway.

That cop that ticketed you for 3 over is a POS. A friend of mine got a ticket a couple years ago for doing 1 mph over. When he went to court to fight it the clerk just threw it out and said not to worry about it. Some cops really need to get over their "authority"

FYI people, I have had friends and myself in certain areas of the United States speeding and found their difference but similar.

Speeding over 100+ is what depends on what you are doing, where and what roads you were caught going that fast. It will not always take you to jail unless you put someone in danger, it will be up to the pigs to decide according to their academy training. But if you are drag racing, or highway racing, you go to jail period. The serve of jail time is 24 hours plus fines. In some states, some pigs are dirty on that part.

For me, I often heavy on gas pedal but at nights, I am the opposite, I dont know why but there is few reasons for the cause. I went over 100 mph several times no matter where and what I am driving. I just hate to follow the speed limit and be a good boy unless I feel it is necessary at some point. I often look for speed traps ahead of time before I approach to that point. Now about the nights, I have caught few highway patrols trying to hide in the darkest spots with their unmarked cars, I slow down in time not to get pulled over. (remember this, NEVER hit the brakes or even touch it) I was like what the hell? Do they know we can spot their reflection of their car windshield, door window or their eyeglasses... idiots. I speed approximately 90% of the time of my 20 years of driving, caught approximately 3% of the time, dismissed, but got ticketed twice for speeding (one in 1994, 2nd in 2005).

Not true. Most cars (1996 or later have governor limited) like 105mph to 110mph due tires limit.

If engine or transmission are overheat then vehicles will shut off.

I did 108mph at 2005 Ford Focus, 110mph at 2001 Subaru RS, and 105mph at 2008 VW Rabbit on country road only (no cross for over 10 miles).

Max speed is 80mph at highway for me to stay avoid from ticket.

I was running late and caught 100mph in 65mph at WI and fined $495 in five years ago

it's entirely up to judge to take away your license.

Yeah, I've hit the limit of the car itself as well. I went about 95 mph top speed on a '83 Honda Civic wagon with 5 spd manual. I couldn't go any faster, lol. I did make it to 110 mph and pegged the speedo when going downhill for a short time.

Also, did go to around 108 mph on a '87 Honda Civic 4 door sedan with 5 spd manual as well. It ran out of steam and I slowed down, ha.

And to add, with a '82 Honda Prelude...it only had a 85 mph speedo, I pegged it many times haha.
