I agree, plus there will be less chaos after they move. A new dog won't get the attention it needs if everyone is busy packing, making arrangements for a move, etc. Then, the poor dog would have to adjust to a new home twice in a few months. I think that's too much. But my two cents is likely less than even your's!I think the loss of a pet is such a sad sad thing. I am so sorry for your loss! It is such a difficult experience.
I vote for after Christmas, too. I think letting a bit of time pass before we give a new forever home to a dog helps the family to grieve and helps the new dog establish their own identity in the house without being treated like a replacement... Just my two cents, likely worth less!
