Family loses insurance because of dog

My insurance for my home just made person pay more $$$ if they have a dog that on 'bad' dog list. I wanted to get a German Shepherd mix but I was told I would have pay more $$$. Any dog will bite if it feel threaten or think it owner is going to be hurt. My computer would not let me open the link , it was blocked.

Sadly this a very old and common problem and well-known within the Bully and Rottie communities. Our company is Rottie and Pittie-friendly.

The article said that you can buy a separate insurance for dog bite claims while you have a homeowner insurance.

'If anyone in town knows you have a pit bull, no one is going to insure it unless you have a separate liability policy that you can buy for those breeds,' Aber said. 'I don't sell it.'

However, before he could help the Reinkes find a broker who would sell them a stand-alone liability insurance policy for the dogs, 'she threw the letter at me and called us dog racists,' Aber told The Star Press. 'I couldn't help her because she didn't want to be helped. We're here to help people. That letter was meant for them to get coverage for those dogs somewhere else so they don't have a gap in their policy.'

Pit bulls should never been bred irresponsible but the other dogs they ok part of family

Disagree. Not just to exclude pit bulls and say every other dog is ok.

No specific breed should be bred irresponsibility regardless of their genetic background. Nor be owned by irresponsible people. I have too many friends and personal experience that has been bit by small dogs not on the list and the scary part is they are not reported as often as they should be.

Pitties in the right owners hands will be the worlds bestest dog. I agree about banning breeding them just because simply too many of them just like other dogs should not be bred as well.

Statistically aren't small dogs more liable to give bites? Especially to the faces of children?

Pitbulls get a bad name because jack asses fight them. Surprisingly they're not even the most aggressive breed! Here's a little article about the most aggressive based on number of bites, and not the severity. Bully breeds are just singled out because when and if they do bite, it's severe because they're huge and their jaw power, so it does a lot of damage. Weenie dogs, Chihuahuas and Jack Russles score highest on the list for most aggressive.... and they ARE! I can't tell you how many demon spawn Chihuahuas bark at EVERY little thing, growl and nip at ankles! I hate them......

The top ranking dog breed, out of the 33 dogs surveyed, to be the most aggressive is…the Dachshund ( Weenie Dog ). Wow! I would never have thought, much less, consider it the most aggressive dog breed. The study found that “one out of five dachshunds have bitten or tried to bite strangers, and a similar number have attacked other dogs; one in 12 have snapped at their owners.”

The second highest ranking for most aggressive is the Chihuahua with Jack Russell ranking in 3rd. Researchers claim that “the bite statistics that have been released in recent years are skewed because most dog bites are not reported. Big dog bites are more likely to require medical attention, but this does not mean that those breeds are doing the majority of the biting.” It is also duly noted that aggressive levels in these breeds is alarming because the percentage keeps rising with rate of and attempted bites.

The breeds that scored the average or below average rate of or attempted bites are Pit Bulls and Rottweilers. The breeds that are the most docile with the utmost least aggression are Basset Hounds, Golden Retrievers, Labradors, Siberian Huskies (my favorite breed) and Greyhounds.

One of the things that happen with smaller/little dogs - especially that literally fit in someone's hand or in a bag - is that they are often not allowed to "be dogs" and their behavior is considered "cute" or funny. Many times they are constantly carried around, not exposed to things other dogs are - and because<especially in the case of the chihauhas in handbags - how many times have I seen that?> people reach for them - and dogs often don't like people reaching FOR them - and the small dog finds that actually very scary and so they respond with defensive aggression - fearful. The outreached hand or person retreats - so dog learns - I act "big and scary, hand goes away". That cycle is repeated and enlarged upon over the course of time.

and children are at much more risk of getting bitten in the face, which is usually a severe injury due to location. Kids do many things naturally when being introduced to dogs that put them in this dangerous position - besides just being at the same level by chance, usually - kids also tend to stare -rude- some dogs tolerate it but most dogs, even trained therapy dogs, do not appreciate being stared at <therapy dogs have just learned that it's a weird "person-thing" and let it go at that>; they approach head-on and fast <also rude and very scary for many dogs>, they make erratic movements and noises and they often pat on top of the hand and right around the dog's face - also very rude.

That's why I really appreciate it when parents have taught kids the right away to get to know a new dog.
I work with many wonderful bullies in the shelter and in rescue, as well as people's personal dogs.

State Farm is one insurance that doesn't do dog discrimination except previously in the state of Ohio, where they once had a statewide law that deemed pitties vicious and they couldn't legally insure them. That's why I laugh a bit when they say they don't have any home insurance anymore, it's not like they can't go elsewhere.

yes, State Farm and Farmer's, we investigated since we have Rotties-

Marty is a small dog and I only carry him when the driveway is really hot in the summer or it there a lot salt or ice melt on the ground. I was a taking a walk with Finlay once and a woman passed us, she had 2 very small dogs one was on a leash and she was pushing the other dog is doggie stroller .
The woman took her dog out the stroller and the stupid dog came barking and nipping near Finlay's legs and my feet! I told the woman to get her dog away from us. If that dog had gotten any closer to Finlay I would had kicked it away. The small dog the leash was fine, but not the dog that being treated like a damn baby! Marty is allowed to be a dog , I am care not to baby him because I do not want him to become a nippy whiny small dog

Mastiff and Cane Corso not on list? RME!

Staffordshire Terrier is my favorite breed, and I don't believe that breed is any dangerous. Only owner make them more dangerous. I grew up with that breed, for 16 years, she has not bite single human being. Whats best part is that creep have tried to mess with my family's house several times only to have our dog scare shyt out of them. Wish my wife would check on that breed instead of wanting Jack Russell Terrier.

After our two dogs pass away, no more dogs. Its just too much for us, cant bring to every attractions when going on trip. We can't even bring them to my parent's house because my parents house prohibit any pets (RME!)
