About exemptions:

Exempting items by category is neither fair nor simple. Respected economists have shown that the wealthy spend much more on unprepared food, clothing, housing, and medical care than do the poor. Exempting these goods, as many state sales taxes do, actually gives the wealthy a disproportionate benefit. Also, today these purchases are not exempted from federal taxation. Finally, exempting one product or service, but not another, opens the door to the army of lobbyists and special interest groups that plague and distort our taxation system today. you are totally mistaken.

Unlike Republicans, Democrats want higher tax rates for the rich to BENEFIT the society, not for themselves. I believe that Democrats have more wealth than Republicans - I think Nancy Pelsoi has more money than any other politicians and Obama makes enough income that he'll have to pay more taxes as well.

I do NOT care for charity much and would rather give more taxes compared to a typical Republican for social programs because I consider them more efficient and more fair to all Americans. So, I would donate less to charity while paying more taxes.

More taxes pay for social programs, welfare, military, and so forth. They're more efficient and more fair. Where are charities that will build free roads for you? Where are charities that print welfare checks and food stamps? Where are charities that will pay for military costs? It's not practical.

If you don't have money to maintain and build public roads, schools, etc, then you will get deeper in debt and the whole infrastructure suffers significantly.

The rich should ALWAYS pay MORE taxes than the middle to low income classes. People who insist that we should impose a flat rate is not actually being fair to the middle/low income classes. Progressive tax is what's truly fair, even for the rich.

A flat tax is still progressive when there is an exemption

because you make more money than I do, of course, income tax will be higher if you make more money.

Same with my parent and they share with me about their situation with high income tax that they paid so they want government to change to flat tax.

It won't make me to support Fair Tax but for other tax reform like flat tax or make Bush's tax cut as permanent or abolish the federal taxes.

While Republican's want a system that is fair for everyone.

Yeah paying 535 people to make decisions on how to spend the money sounds REAL efficent. :lol: Not to mention these are the people that funded the Robotic bees and turtle bridges. I would rather give to people in need

Again with the more efficent. :lol: There are plenty of charities for the poor....and they are very efficent. Unlike our government. Roads and Military? of course we must tax for those.

either way - wait till you're a salary man. it's best to make opinion on it based on direct experience rather than from vicarious experience.

Who cares? I'm still political activist on tax reform because I don't want any of tax reform that affect my future.
