Try looking for one on Ebay, I'm sure you can find a great canoe in decent or better condition for around half the cost of a new one.

We have two kayaks here which we could let you borrow it but we are too far away from you. :giggle:

I would recommend you to get a kayak. It have a storage in it which is waterproof. We use it to put our cellphone and purse/wallet inside. I think kayak are more sable than canoe and can be use on waters anywhere.

Look at the urls so you see what it look like. The round black thing you see on the kayak is the waterproof storage which you can store things in it. What we have is Gizmo and Venture. I don't know you have them in USA as they are made here in West Australia.

Hey I wish ride kayak with you but too far!! :( Me too I dont know about your West Australia!! If you planning coming to USA and pls let me know so we can ride at river ;)
 
I have a red Kayak Pungo 100. (30" x 10 ft) It is 30 inches wide because it almost never flip over. The narrow ones really flip over a lot especially novices. I bought it at Dick's Sporting Goods store.

If you are a novice, then you really practice it on a small brook or a big pond with your friends often. Then, you will feel ready to go on a big river. It is too dangerous for you jump in without experience on it. I don't care what other people say that it's not a big deal.

I have Seven2 paddles (brand) - Iso Touring Paddle It is a thin frame and easy to use. It is just my preference. I think that you would like it.
