Hi all, I wanted to share with you an exciting news.

My marching band director of the Centerville Jazz band wanted to speak with me last week on friday. And I don't know if you ever heard about Bands Of America that has been held in Indy,Indiana alot for BOA [bands of america] super regionals and Grand nationals. And BOA has a program called Music for All.

Music for All is one of the largest and most influential national music education organizations in support of active music-making. Music for All is unique in that it combines programming at a national level with awareness campaigns, research and advocacy. Bands of America (BOA) and Orchestra America are programs of Music for All, with a 33-year heritage in providing spectacular educational experiences for instrumental music programs and students.

Music for All is also one of the nation's leading music and arts education research, public policy and advocacy organizations, addressing the growing concern that public policies have created barriers for many schools and communities to provide music and arts programs as part of a basic education for all children.

anyways more information about Music for All: here's the link-- MFA: About Us

Back to my topic, As my band director was talking to me, he said the BOA/Music for all is going to do a article about people that are in the band that has disabilities. And my Director wanted me to do the article. And I agreed to do it. And it is a huge honor. Because it means representing my band [the Centerville Jazz Band], myself, my peers and my band director. My band director already emailed Music For all and said that they would email my parents the questions and have me answer the questions with my parents in case i don't know how to answer or explain them. I'm so excited. And when the magazine comes out, I'll keep you updated if you want to read the article. :D

I just had to share this news with you.

great job :) I love Jazz too as well hymns and classic. And some 50's music (like Elvis, I mentioned one of post that my mom was a die hard fan of Elvis so Elvis will always remind me of my mom)

I totally love music as well and really miss being able to hear it. I do still play the piano when I can and my church is trying to get me to play for them. The lady that had been playing died a few years back at age 98 and the man playing now is having problems with his hearing (aids are not working) and he now has to wear braces of both hands and wrists. I can't play in front of an audience due to the constant criticism years ago about my piano playing.

I always liked classical, christian and folk songs.

Gratz girly! Be sure to keep a few copies to put in your college app and job portfolio! :)

Fame is so contagious! Congrats CGS90!

hey guys, sorry i haven't updated this thread. Heres the link: MARCHING.COM: Students of all abilities benefit from involvement in band and music

Scroll down until you see my name: Kirsten. Theres another deaf girl who does color guard. But I do pit. So, read if you like!! :)

Cool! And congrats, too! I was also involved in marching band competitions with my high school marching band. We competed in marching band competitions in Georgia, South Carolina and Florida. It takes lots of work to be in a band and get the coordination down pat. You already know the amount of efforts it takes to do all that. It's rare/uncommon to see deaf or hh high school students be a part of their marching band or any musical bands for that matter.

 I was in marching band too - percussion group. I moved from xylophone to cymbal since it was the only available position cuz I wanted to be in the field, not sideline. was hoping to be a drummer but oh well. our theme was Les Miserables.

indeed a lot of hard work especially since we have to do it in pretty much all weathers. we go where football players go. the crappiest weather I've ever had was doing the formation in heavy downpour... meaning stepping on muddy puddle. :mad2:

a cool fun was doing the march for NYC parade but I cannot remember what kind of parade was it :dunno:

what position did you do for marching band?

Kirsten, congratulations on your successes in music and namely band. I enjoyed reading about all 5 students profiled in that article, and it defiately gave me good memories of achieving things people told me I cannot achieve or accomplish.

thanks guys! during the winter season, the centerville drumline is also going to be starring in a movie, well a documentry called Rhythm generation. It won't be released until the middle or the end of may. But you will see alot of signing from me in the movie :) And see my friends sign as well. I don't know if there is going to be CC on the documentry. But i'm pretty sure you would understand my signing in it. And in a few weeks i'm going to be doing a follow up interview with one of the camera guys in a few weeks. The documentry is based on the whole drumline really, but only few of the people in the drumline will get to be interviewed. And i got that chance. And they been kind of following me around asking me a bunch of questions. So, i'll let you know for more updates until that time.
