Eustachian tube with CI

Why did you have to have re implantation ? Just curious..

Why did you have to have re implantation ? Just curious..

Krazy told you the same. My third cousin have had re-implantion surgery for free. Because his AB device stopped work. He got re implant surgery in his right ear to Nucleus Freedom. He got second CI surgery last year ago. He is happy being bilateral CI.

Why did you have to have re implantation ? Just curious..

I was seven when I went down plastic slide in McDonalds with my friend and all of sudden, my CI stopped working. I thought my batteries has died so I went up to mom and she gave me new batteries. It didn't work so we went home and try again with new batteries, still didn't work. Mom called Audiologist from TMOS (Tucker Maxon Oral School) and I went in and they tried to map it out again and it didn't work at all... I still couldn't hear a thing. After two weeks of trying, my parents and my audiologist decided to go to OHSU where my CI surgeon works... and my CI surgeon had me to have X-rays taken of my head... Finally found the problem. I'm not sure what part of my CI in my head was broken... I think it was something in the Cochlea. I can't say for sure... I was only seven.

So I got surgery again to get re implantation, take the broken one out and get a new one.

No wonder. It was same happened as my third cousin's first AB stopped work from plastic slide. I wish I can play plastic slide with my future kid but I will never able to do it anymore. :( How about Waterpark with slides??? And tanning bed?? I just curious.

I can go on waterpark slides if I leave my CI off... as for tanning bed, it's ok to be in it as long as you take your CI off

That's good idea. I was consider to take a tanning bed. I wasn't sure about tanning bed and waterpark slide could affect my CI. I have question. Do I should get CI off during plastic slide with toddlers or not?

My inner ear is getting heal and no more blood spit out. I am glad my taste is back to normal from metallic.

I don't go down the slide with my 3 year old son.... instead I just stand by the slide and watch him, to make sure he's safe. However if there's a metal slide... then I do go down the slide with him, with my CI on because metal slide won't affect your CI. You don't need to take your CI off if you stand by plastic slide... however you do need to take your CI off if you want to go down on plastic slide.

Did some reading on plastic slide accidents. They say its the static electricity that ruins the CI. Most CIs can handle the voltage, but once the threshold is exceeded, boom.

Moon that is what I was thinking , the static discharge probably zapped the electrodes inside the Cochlear... I would hope by now technology have improved to prevent that from happening.. My implant have a grounding wire inside my head lol

SouthFella , Cochlear has a grounding wire too.The risk is very minimal , but that doesn't mean u shouldn't be careful.

Plus the internal implant never gets affected , the external just gets its maps wiped out and u have to reschedule for a remapping.worse case scenario they will have to give you a new external device.

Sometimes it's too bad u can't be neutral.

I do know for a fact that both Med El and Cochlear companies are having grounding wires.I never looked into AB coz it wasn't an option here.First u need to educate yourself , and second stop plugging along for your company.Offer advice yes , but not in an condenscing way.that goes too irritating after so much repeating u doing.

I understand what you mean. I got it now. Thank you! I am feeling safe and confidence. I don't have to worry. :)

The grounding method is not the same on the silicone implant as it is on the ceramic implant... That I learned when I was " educating myself" before I chose the CI company for my implant. And the electrodes inside the cochlea can get damaged and/or the implant wires on the implant. Rare yet possible..

Pinky how are you healing up so far ? Getting exicted as you get near your activation date ?
