So heres an update on my ENT appointment:
as always, had to do a new audiogram (*shudders*).
Heres a summary:
Right 90db - 100db Speech 40% @ 90db
Left 85db - 100db Speech 50-60% at 85db
Results "inconsistent"
funnily enough, she did speech FIRST. Ive always had speech done last. By the end of the test I was practically having a minor anxiety attack, so I'm not surprised that they are 'inconsistent'.
Anyway, the ENT wants an MRI done, and is recommending that I go for a CI consult before my cochleas become ossified.
my reflexes were all normal this time (which is odd because last time a few were absent at 105).

As for the balance, he said there is nothing that can be done (*great*).

Just my update,
*EQL*

I see my ENT on the 27th....will let you know more later....haven't had another attack since the last one.....

did your ENT say anything bout the normal reflexes? lol because apparently my CI audi thinks thats WAY to abnormal..i think it's bs

Sorry there cant be nothing done about balance, I know your frustration! I also hate going to the ENT... lol good luck :)

reflexes are like 50% inconsistent. I remember I had one come back normal and my audiologist wrote it off saying there is like a 50/50 chance of false positives. I have never had my audi actually test them, it only happened at the ENT clinic.

Is your ENT in Toronto Lisa?

For many reasons, to determine type of deafness and reasons to deafness, to see if we have cochlea hairs/abnormal shaped cochlea or if our cochlea is ossifised, also to picture what the cochlea looks like before cochlea implantation.

I had CT scan which clarify that I have no Basilia memberane and my cochlea and that my cochlea is in perfect shape for the cochlear implant. I didn't need the MRI as the CT scan told enough.

Balance trouble can be different conditions-takes doctors time to determine which is your cause.
Never ever had an MRI for hearing loss. Had lots of audiograms over the last 40 years! My former ENT clinic was in St Michaels Hospital- now ,of course, Sunnybrook -Cochlear Implant section.
Isn't the Cochlear Implant consultations done at Sunnybrook/Ottawa/ London and Thunderbay for most of Ontario?

Advanced Bionics Harmony Atria activated Aug/07

I had an MRI and a CT scan to verify that I had no ear drums and that my cochleas are also disappearing.

Would like to know more about ur ear drums....what happened there?....(as I was in the same boat)...due to a rare eardrum disease.

Massive calcium deposits in both ears. The calcium spread and basically closed off the eardrums. That is also how I am losing the cochlea. I was born with it and they think it had something to do with medicine my mother was taking and that I was such a difficult birth. Breech, started out butt first, doctor tried to turn me and I ended up right arm and right leg first and almost broke my neck. Mother passed out during procedure.

Oh boy!....very painful for ur Mother.....as for me, I believe it started off with a busted eardrum...infection spread to both ears. I only had very little of my ear drums left when they did surgery...and blotched that! (Damaged my nerves).
