As the title says, is it okay?

I've had ear infections since early October and they've gone from severe to mild as they described it but for the last 6 weeks, the mild infections is staying as mild but also isn't clearing.

I've been put on yet more antibiotics but I seriously need new ear molds, I don't know whether its a good idea to do the impressions.

I don't think it is since they usually change the shape of the ear and the canal. I used to get them like you are getting them when I used a hearing aid. I haven't had a single one since my CI.

Do you use alcohol wipes on your mold before wearing and after wearing? That may help reduce the frequency of them.

I clean they everynight with soap and water and then put them in my dry n store. I haven't had as much as this problem since I was a child apart from the odd ear infection here and there.

The molds I've got now are blue and I haven't had colored molds for well over 10 years ago since I was a child. I'm thinking my ears don't like colored molds.

At this point, I don't care about colored molds, I just want ears that are clear :)

That's what I thought about infections changing shape etc.

My right is now clear so gonna get right done on the 2nd. I know they will be done at different times and one will be tighter etc but I would rather have my left tighter anyway as that is my bad ear so maybe it will work out well.

I would switch to the wipes.. they will kill bacteria more easily and thoroughly than soap and water.

It seemed that they were increasing in frequency with age. I can't believe it's been over 6 years since I've had one. It used to happen twice a year if not more.

Will start using alcohol wipes...I've also got these Phonak cleansing tablets as well which Phonak state to use twice a week...not how much they help?!...they actually state to clean ear molds once a week with soap and water, which shocked me as I've always done it every night.

Gonna go for frosted molds next...get away from color and hope they clear up.

Not sure alcohol wipes are a good idea but maybe another type of antibacterial wipe would work. I think I remember my audi saying not to use alcohol on my molds as it could ?damage? them.

That's what I've been told in the past...I thought maybe the recommendation had changed?

Wirelessly posted (Blackberry Bold )

I wouldn't use alcohol wipes either. They damage the moulds. Why not email your audie and ask what you should use.

My audiologist did recommend that for me. .. But I suppose with most molds it would dry them out. So I take it back.

Washing them every night might actually be part of what's causing you problems. You might be having a reaction to the soap (even if it's well rinsed).

I wipe my mould with a damp cloth (just water) at night, and only clean it with soap and water once a month - when I used to clean it more than that, I'd get irritated skin from stripping all the natural oils off the mould (and then off by skin when the mould's in place).

well -- having ear infection is no fun. If you are dead set on gettings molds made asap -- you need to remember what is an ear infection and what can cause distortion. FYI - I am not in the medical field, nor claim to be expert by any means. Ear infections is basically what? fluid behind the ear that will not drain. many factors can cause this. your Eustachian tube is plugged, the drainage ports swollen up from infection, sinus infection, etc.
When you get molds made - you gotta breathe right? if your Eustachian is plugged up - your face naturally distorts and for those who can wiggle their ears will distort the outer part of the ear- meaning messing up the mold. So breathing with plugged ears is a bad combo for us HOH.

Have you tried nasal spray for sinuses and see if your nose, or side of your neck feels less pressured for 15 mins? If so, that is whats I would do. use nasal spray and blow your nose before mold is made. I had to do that couple times since My time is valuable and I just happened to have plugged ears that day of appointment. So i did that routine in front of my audiologist , as gross it sounds- I hate going back for a remake so grossness trumps everything.

Ear infections are absolutely horrible...I don't have a medical background, but I'd avoid having molds made while dealing it, no matter how mild. When your ears are healthy do the molds.

Gonna get my right mold done as my right is now clear according to the doc and then do my left when the infections goes. With getting my right done, at least it's highly likely for the infection not to return as I won't have colored molds and then I'll concentrate on sorting my left out. :ty:

I been using alcohol on my mold to clean it, I better ask my audi if it OK to do this . I will stop using the alcohol for now.

My Audi told me to use Savlon as its antiseptic but doesn't damage your molds (silicone). Can you get that in the US?

Yep. With Amazon, almost anything is possible.

I just bought an item, and the directions were in Japanese-- no English. :giggle:

I know no one is doctors on here but do you think this antiseptic stuff would actually help clean my infections up? The antibiotics that I started on Monday have made no different as my left is now worse.

I don't know if your doctor has taken a sample from your ear canal to determine what kind of infection it is. If they say try it, then what harm is there in doing so?

An antiseptic won't get rid of an ear infection. It's only meant for certain bacteria and won't go far enough/treat your ear infection. You make need to be prescribed a different antibiotic if your body is used to the current one your on. Your body will get used to certain antibiotics over time if you're using them often enough and if you always have ear infections then I'm sure this is why you still have the current one. Switch up your meds
