Since I already have a TV with a VCR built into it, I bought a new DVD player at WalMart tonight to watch DVD movies. :) I just used it, and I have learned by myself how to use the "menu". :) I also bought two new DVD movies -- one is "Young Frankenstein", a Mel Brooks film with Gene Wilder....and the other one is a 2-set DVD discs of the First Season of "Bewitched" (in color!!) with Elizabeth Montgomery. :)
I tried out learning how to use the DVD player with the first episode of "Bewitched" (the one where Darren and Sam first met, married, and he found out she was a witch). ;) I enjoyed seeing this episode again...and the scene where Sam embarrassed the ex-girlfriend still made me laugh. :) It's nice that I have learned using a new player with one of my favorite "classic shows" since I was a kid. ;) Also, I understood the conversations in the show now since it's CC....I enjoyed it without CC before because most of it is just action....but the CC adds to it even more. :)
I have a lot of movies in VCR cassettes, and now I can get the ones in DVD! :)

Yea I brought mine a few months ago and still learning to use it. LOL took me a while but still havent brought anything for the movie. The reason why I brought DVD is because everytime I rented the movie from blockbuster. The VCR wont show the CC but DVD does. I never had a problem before so now I do so that is why I brought DVD so I can watch the movie with CC. :P

I bought two DVD *RECORDER* they sells at Wal-fart for 98 bux each! They are far better than VCR because you don't need to wind back and forth to find a show in between! Unlike VCR, DVD recorder DO seperate the shows and list on menu! for example you record every day, they will date each of em and say you want watch wednesday show, just click that wednesday on the menu and viola, your now watching that show. A real time saver! Whats more, DVD recorder blank disc cost less than 3 bux and you can re- use them or you may want to permenant copy on DVD which cost less than a bux each. Actually there are 4 different kinds of DVD now on market DVD-RW, and DVD+RW these two formats are rewriteable meaning can re use over and over and other two is DVD-R and DVD+R, meaning it records ONCE, and can not be reuse again. Pay attention to + and - because most DVD recorder were designed either + or - and not interchangeable. There are very few, but high priced recorders that could take virtually any DVD disc, even regular computer CD disc!

Is that your first dvd Nancy? About time. LOL! I had my dvd since for two years now, actually we have two dvds one in the living room and one in the boys's bedroom so they can watch their cartoons or PG's movies. ;)

I love dvd players, I still have my VHS, But I gave it to my boys since they still have movies with VHS. :)

Actually, my DVD player can play both DVD-R and DVD+R discs and it isn't a high-priced player. It's more common than you think, most of the new DVD players can play both DVD-R and DVD+R along with SVCD/VCD.

I am one of the few people in the world who has yet to purchase a DVD player. Any suggestions? I have heard that Pioneer is good.

I have mah own dvd from mah aunt gift me last 3 yrs for xmas and I have lotts dvds movie ofc I still have old vhs I don't use watch tbis one but only dvds movie does ;)

I have a DVD player that is not bound to Region 1. It can play DVDs from any of the six regions of the world, so it is really cool since I can order DVDs from Europe and play them in my DVD player. It's cool to watch movies with foreign language subtitles, so I am able to watch movies with subtitles in their original languages rather than to be stuck and watch in English or French only. I have several from Germany, and I watch with German subtitles. Same for France. Since I have been learning Norwegian, I tried to watch one movie which had Norwegian subtitles, and it was fun trying to understand it.

We also have a VCR here as well, but I am thinking of buying one of those DVD recorders soon, so that I can record stuff from TV to the DVD. They are not badly priced right now, between $100 to $200. The only problem is that there is not many that I want to record from the TV, so it's hard to justify that kind of purchase. Perhaps I would want to record mostly from HBO, but they end up on DVDs anyway.

Yes it is my first DVD. ;) And I love it! :)

I just ordered from Amazon.com, the brand new DVD discs of the Second Season of "Bewitched" in color...so it should arrive to my house in early November. :) This 2nd Season of 36 episodes all in color just came out now. :)

I just watched the "Young Frankenstein" DVD movie with Gene Wilder and Terri Garr. :) There are scenes that just made me laugh...like the one of Cloris Leachman's character....whenever her character's name was spoken, the horses started neighing....another scene was when the monster visited a blind guy. The blind guy accidently poured hot soup in the monster's lap a couple of times and the expression on the monster's face afterward was priceless. :giggle:

I had a good time watching the discs tonight.

Im talking about **RECORDER** NOT JUST PLAYER! I know that most DVD players can play back using almost any formats! Go to store and look for **RECORDER** and you will be surprised how many of them have specification on which format! I have done alot research 4 months ago! I ended up bought DVD-R-RW Recorder instead of the + which is more common.

Thanks for the clarification. In a way, that's true at the moment for the standalone DVD recorders. Though many DVD writers on the PC are capable of writing both DVD-R and DVD+R. At least the new models are, like mine.
