DVD CC settlement is approved

That's bad settlement because DVD is dying.

Dying? No, not yet. It's still strong and healthy right now. It is likely it will remain strong for the next few years while the Blu-Ray format strengthens.

I am feel concerned what was happening about DVD CC settlement, so I
sent to letter to
dvdsettlement@themillsfirm.com

And I sent a letter, if it was approved or not.

I got a letter from DVD CC settlement lawyer from
Boltz:

"Hi, CCfan. Good to hear from you. The settlement was given
final approval on 8/28/06. So, there should be millions of DVDs with
captioned special features on the market within 10 months.
I hope you will take the opportunity to enjoy them!"

WOW! I am very happy that settlement is approved!

I have to comments to say: It's wait for 10 months and them will
coming in June-July 2007 to be closed-captioning on bonus
features for 5 years until the year of 2012.
This settlement has been won, so now, Warner Bros., MGM, Universal Pictures,
Buena Vista Entertainment, and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment

so now I can't wait to see the movie called "Spiderman-3" may be closed-captioned on bonus features. :applause: :dance2:

FYI, BD and HD-DVD are exempt from add CC but only options to add subtitles on bonus features.

I would say it, in fact, there is no bad settlement, just a good settlement
for DVD to require the captioning for over the five years on bonus material.

FYI, there is a more DVD upcoming, because there... have a strong sales
for DVD-format than HD-DVD or Blu-ray.

I ask you, for what, which only options to add subtitles on bonus features on DVD or somewhere else? :dunno:

HD-DVD and BD are exempt to include CC, also rather to use SDH.

If you don't like it then stuck with DVD, also DVD is soooo cheaper and can't get HD.

FCC's signals could have an effect on the enforceability of the settlement. I'd say 60% chance its no good.

Blue Ray is strong already. Fry's got them.

[jordan]got proof?[/jordan]

serious... Banjo is right. It's not dying and they sell still strong with large DVD user while blu-ray and DVD-HD are still small percent.

I am totally agree with Banjo, and PowerOn... I said, It's still sales with big percent
of DVD users, because there is a low prices of DVD Player also,
most household don't have 1080p HDTV.

I hope they don't ignore the new formats. Right now I'm investing in the HD-DVD and would love it if they did the CC for the bonus on it as well. I'm planning on getting the Ultimate Matrix collection in HD-DVD in May(made by WB). While, I'm not investing in the Bluray camp yet, I hope they don't get ignored either.

Either way, if they impliement more captions in bonus features, movies, it's a win all around.

Hi, Andycane. I don't think that would be require to subtitled/captioned
on bonus features on Blu-ray or HD-DVD, however these movies
will be only on DVD, but I don't think I would see re-issue DVD for
Matrix collection.

I found one of Warner Bros state Bonus Material not Rated, but may would be closed captioned on Larry King, because WB has already been settled with
more closed-captioning, see on
DVD Empire - Item - Larry King Live: Greatest Interviews Collection / DVD-Video

I am surprised WB got rid of closed-captioning on label for bonus material
not rated and dropped for closed-captioning that means it have
closed-captioning on bonus materials! I will get it on Netflix.com for
try, and I will tell you if true or not.

Update: I was mistaken, but there will be closed-captioning
on July 3, 2007 for these DVD release day to be closed-captioned/subtitled
on these bonus features for MGM, Sony/Tri-Star, Warner Bros,
Universal Studios and Buena-Vista. July 3, 2007 that is
completed for 10 months of shipment will be no longer exempted
until 2013 that means after five years will be no longer to
be agreed with those studios.

I wish that ALL DVD must have subtitles but I don't need CC because of watching on Xbox 360.

What is on your Xbox 360 for games or movies?

I don't need CC on the games, but I want subtitles on some videos
game such as: Mario, Pokemon, Resident Evil series, other
biggest games.

I would like to mention that Resident Evil: Deadly Silent (remake on original) for DS have subtitle, that's only you able to understand the whole story.

Anyway, I would like to reply on the first post....

I thought it's good news that the settlement have been done with many studio to encourage put subtitle/cc on DVD. And I'm except to see the more specific on the back to know which is available or not since the last time, it being mislead as the first announcement been told that it been mislead always, in the market how we look and think if there is whole or not. So, it need specific to told that it is available. That's all we care to know without disappointment.
