Driveway Preferences?

Yeah, I noticed that too. I think it is easier and cheaper to build the garages up front because of the way the streets are nowdays (more crowded, houses are back to back) whereas in a smaller town, the house can be sitatuated in between two streets or have enough room for the car to drive around the house and go out the front.
Yeah. If it was a busy street, I'd prefer an alley. If it was a private street, then I'd prefer a from-the-front approach.

With busy streets, it's hard to back up unless you backed up when you came home. :)

We park the van and Hubby's Jeep inside the garage. My Jeep parks outside.

I want my garage to be in the back of the house...I can't stand to see the driveway in the front of the house because there are so many driveways that have oil spots and tire marks on them - looks ugly. It takes forever to keep the driveway looking presentable.

Plus I'm terrible at driving backwards from the garage to the street.

Right now I'm living in an apartment complex, which is weird for me because I'm so used to living in a house. I have a parking area assigned - but it is between two poles it is next to the garbage bin. It is a little out of my way from my apartment. And dangerous, because you really can't see if someone is nearby the bin because they have a small building that covers the bin. I have a Chrysler Pacifica (and I'm only 5 feet tall) so it is very hard for me to squeeze my car between the poles...so I never used my parking space. I simply use the visitor's parking - which happens to be directly in front of my apartment. (SHHHHHH!)

I am with u on that one about the garage. My neighborhood is an historical one so many of the houses here have a separate garage in the back. It is so cool because i grew up in suburbia Phx where all the houses had garages and driveways in the front. I think the garage or driveway in the back adds character.

As for my house..I dont have a driveway, we have to park on the street. My hubby wants to build a driveway on the side of the house. I am not sure if I am thrilled with the idea. Maybe I can talk to him about a garage in the back. I dont know how that will work...hmm

Yeah, I noticed that. I don't know what happened. It wasn't like that before. I'll check my settings later.
That's alright... at least, you have a nice-looking driveway. :)

So, as soon as you read this thread... you quickly grabbed your digital camera... ran outside into the street... took a picture... then ran back inside to upload into AllDeaf? ;)

If I was a multi-millionaire, I'd probably just install cameras everywhere inside and outside of my house. If anyone creates a thread about something, I can easily take a picture of anything from anywhere around my house and upload it instantly. ;)

Anyways, I noticed that you have what looks like a wood board on the side of your driveway. Am I right?

This is my driveway:

What a beautiful driveway!!! :giggle:

However, I remember your picture of your front yard plants...now that was beautiful!!!

I call it the runway, the driveway extends onto both front and back roads. I love a good accelerating start!

I like the bricks in the driveway...

I like a bit long with straight driveway to the garage.

Pretty close. ;)

Heh, heh.

Which side? I don't have a wood board, so I'm trying to figure out what you're referring to.

On the left, that your SUV is parked on... looked like wood. Perhaps, bricks or stones?

This is my driveway:

What's the use of having a driveway when you don't even park your jeep on it? You have it parked on some sort of gravel next to the driveway. I don't see that often.

Oh, that's natural cypress mulch. I park on a "hump" where we used to have a tree. It's now a mulched area, like our flower beds. But no flowers in my parking spot. Just the mulch with a border of monkey grass, and my "Jeep parking only--all others will be crushed" sign. :)

Perhaps, there were a lot of cars at the house?

I had a similar experience at my old house in Rochester. The driveway was big enough to hold 4 cars. There were 4 of us living in the house. However, one roommate had a car and a SUV. He also had a boat. So, we ended up putting one in the garage and one on the grass next to the garage.

See above post for the description.

Hubby parks his work van and his Jeep in our garage. If I park on the driveway behind his vehicles, we would have to do a constant shuffling of vehicles to get in and out because we work such weird schedules. So it's easier if I park on the side, out of the way.

We thought about paving it before, maybe brick but one day when I had the Jeep parked on the hump my daughter saw it and said that's the way a Jeep should be parked, uphill, on a natural material. So instead of paving over it, I embraced it. Hubby got me the sign, and now I have my own special place. :)

If we had boulders here in SC, I'd get one for parking. Alas, there are no natural rocks here.

Ah... nice. :)
