Because of the lack of continuing support for Windows XP PRO I am thinking of updating current computer or getting a different laptop (I use a laptop as only computer). BUT I have a Microtek ScanMaker V6USL that I regularly use to scan directly into the version of WordPerfect that is part of WordPerfect Office X4. At the time I got my current computer VISTA was just coming out and there was not a driver for this old scanner for VISTA. Thus, since I could get the computer I wanted with either XP PRO or VISTA I go XP PRO.

XP PRO is still working for everything that I am doing but I don't know how much longer it will. Things like my anti-virus still supports XP PRO but I am not sure it will for how long.

So do any of you have suggestions?

I don't know if this will help:

I think you're going to have to move from XP PRO to a computer with an OS that is supported, especially to stay safe on-line. If you want to keep your old computer for just off-line word processing that's a possibility.

How old is the computer with XP?

I do NOT have a current problem with it. Having just had a modem/gateway for my AT&T DSL service replaced it got me thing about the future.

My current computer is from 2007. I installed a much larger hard disk in it a few years ago and use a number of things attached through USB.

That's what the link was about, how to avoid trouble with a future update. If it doesn't apply to you that's fine.

I does happen to be one that I had already found using Google.

Like Reba said. Keep your old machine offline and for scanning only. Then get yourself something new for everything else. I have an XP box running at the shop because it is the newest OS that supports some software I need to communicate with our big 5 axis CNC machine. (NetBEUI if anyone remembers that)

Another option is to have both OS on one machine, keeping the old one for legacy programs but that option isn't for everyone.
