In show businesses, they have contracts that they make people sign. Whatever Dr. Phil is doing is apparently legal if they allowed this to continue.
 
Dr Phil is not a "Dr." per se.

Once upon a time, McGraw really was licensed as a clinical psychologist. But in 1989, the Texas board that licenses psychologists disciplined him for an inappropriate "dual relationship" with a 19-year-old patient. (McGraw denies the young woman's claim that the relationship was sexual.) He was ordered to take an ethics class and have his practice supervised for a year.

Instead of fulfilling these and other conditions imposed by the Board of Examiners of Psychologists, McGraw abandoned the practice of therapy. The following year he started a jury consultation firm, Courtroom Sciences Inc. (CSI). It was in this capacity that he met Oprah Winfrey, then fighting a lawsuit by the beef industry, who boosted him into the world of show biz.

His haranguing style of voyeuristic quasi-therapy has proved enormously popular. Last year, he netted 6.7 viewers and earned a whopping $45 million.

We really dont know what it is like day in and out taking care of triplets with additional needs. We cant judge the mother because I am sure all of us will probably be just as overwhelmed if we were in her shoes. The last thing this mother needs is people calling her names and passing judgements.
 
DR. Phil is not a real psychologist so why is he called a DR.! I can't stand the guy!
 
I take Imitrex (100 mg tablets) and have been taking it for the past several years. It works like a charm! If I don't take Imitrex, I have the same symptoms you described -- nausea, vomiting, dizziness and sensitivity to sound.

I'm also taking Depakote which happens to be a migraine preventative. Ever since I've been on the Depakote, I haven't had any migraines. Without the Depakote, I'd have 2-3 migraines per week.

Speaking of which, I have an amusing story to tell you...After my 1st CI surgery, I woke up with a migraine but didn't realize it because of how tired and groggy I felt.

Forgive me for hijacking this thread temporarily, but as I suffer from migraines severely myself, could you please tell me if your CI doesn't act as a trigger for your migraine?
meaning, don't your find the noise to be an aggravating factor for your headaches?

He is real, and a clinical psychologist. He was licensed in Texas, but he is no longer practicing now. He gives his opinions on the TV purely for "entertainment purposes". He is not even licensed in California. There is a fine line between giving an public opinion and is asked for formal consultation. Doctors usually are asked in formal meetings for consultation behind the closed doors. I am sure people are in line to talk to Dr.Phil. They sign the contracts before they get on the show with him to talk about their very private problems.

As for lawyers, posting legal advice on a public forum can count as malpractice as well as unauthorized practice of law. Unauthorized practice of law is a more broad definition, depending on the state you are in.

I completely agree. Unless you've walked a lifetime in her shoes...

shows like this are carefully edited. They WANT a strong reaction from the audience and will fix it to make it look the most dramatic/shocking. What we see is such a tiny slice of their real life and is not nearly enough to pass such harsh judgment.

Do you think John & Kate or the Duggars really lived everyday like we're shown on their shows? We're shown what the producers want us to see to get the greatest reaction in hopes we tune in again.

The very same thing can be done about members who reserves harsh criticism about a person which they have yet to live a slice out of their lives.

That's what I think. And I think these people wanted to be on TV as well.
 
Wait a second...... weren't these the triplets who were going to go to Perkins? I vaguely recall reading about that. It's possible they may be too high functioning for a blind school. A lot of people don't know this, but most students at blind schools are blind plus. And most students served by deaf blind programs are REALLY affected. Maybe there needs to be regional Deaf Blind programs, so different states can band together and create regional school programs for high functioning Deaf Blind kids as well as just blind kids. (many just blind kids who are struggling in the mainstream may have problems, but not be served well at a blind school b/c of many of the students being Blind plus.)
It's possible the blind school wasn't the appropreate placement for them

I know I am not waiting in line to talk to Phil! I have seen how he yell at people when his ad come on ! I would call the guy off if he yelled at me!

These kids are multiply handicapped. They are 10 and still in diapers. Even if they couldn't attend a school for the blind, why couldn't they got to a school for the deaf??

Yes, I agree with this as well. Some people are desperate enough that they don't mind being on TV.

I watch his show sometimes. But I don't think this episode featuring the deafblind triplets has been shown here yet.

Anyway, my mother does not like Dr. Phil show much. She said any help he provides for families or kids, well, how long would it last?

exactly. has anybody ever bothered with follow up on any Dr Phil show ever?
They sometimes air follow ups, or you can do research online yourself.

Anyway, if you are careful you can catch what kind of help is being offered to the participants on the show.
let me tell you, it is substantial help paid by Dr Phil company and by other companies donations.

Even if it (the help) turned out not being all 'pomp and circumstance', it's MUCH BETTER than what they started with. Or had before.

I am pretty sure the deaf-blind triplets will have a lot more support and a far better professional help than they had until now.
And so will the mother,
who obviously was bewildered by the whole experience.
I don't know the whole story but maybe she has no experience with this type of disability, so how could she know how to deal with it?
she is learning on the go herself.


Suppose YOU all of a sudden had to deal with a child - let alone THREE,
who was born with a disability you've never ever knew it even existed?
""without blinking an eye""??? I seriously doubt it.
