I am a biaural moderate severe precipitously sloping to profound hearing impaired Phonak Nadia V UP HA user with good success using my aids with the Phonak ComPilot coupled with the Smartlink FM. My weakest hearing issue is in small group and one on one in noisy environments.I realize this situation is a major challenge for most of us who use aids. Is anyone in this message board able to give some insight whether it is worth $800 or so for me to pursue? I would think that my own aids working with the Smartlink already should be optimizing my ability to hear.

have you tried the different programs on your SmartLink for the different situations? I have the SmartLink+ myself, but I mostly only have used it for music listening with my iPod or in a classroom setting, never tried it like in a restaurant setting or anything like that (though I should!). But there are 3 buttons on the Smartlink that controls how much sound the Smartlink is picking up on. I also don't have the ComPilot, I use the actual FM receivers on my cochlear implant processor and hearing aid.

I've used the Smartlink with a ComPilot with the FM receiver plugged in. Its ability to sort out background sounds is limited. The three buttons you mentioned in your post is for microphone direction.

Yeah, but surely the different microphone directions would help somewhat?

If it's the Smartlink + and the MLXi receiver and it's set up properly then that system should detect background noise and raise the speech line by 8db to help in noise. For this to work tho, it needs to be set up properly.

Also what cdmeggers is saying, is something that will help so you need to try it. The three buttons do help in noise as they are different zooms and the first one is super zoom with noise cancelation.

Sounds like the FM has not been set up with the FM toaster like it should of so it isn't helping you.

I have the system and it works extremely well in noise.

I think I have an answer but not what I want to hear.

Thanks for the helpful info and insights.I will play with it more and work with my Audi to tweak it. Perhaps I was curious about any new toys out there.lol.

I had my receiver gain increased by 8db the other day and oh my word, it's made the world of good. My FM has gone from good to dam right awesome, could never live without it.

Having the extra gain in the receivers is so handy to me being profoundly deaf!

I've also been told that I shouldn't upgrade to the Roger as the gain can't be increased permanently like on the Smartlink + system.

The Smartlink + is also a remote control for my Naida which is useful and another reason I don't want to upgrade as well.

Check to see if work will pay for Smartlink, it can be used in meetings. I've never used a Domino so I can't comment on it. For me, the Smartlink has the best sound. I primarily use it's bluetooth feature.

VGuy, if you want the Smartlink to work as a remote for you Naida S IX UP then ask you Audi to add the Smartlink as an accessory within your HA software and them it'll work as a remote. I love my Smartlink as a remote.

I've been told not to upgrade to the new Roger system myself as it's not great for people who wear HAs and are profoundly deaf. I'm happy that my FM is so well set up for me that I wouldn't care for any newer tech :)
