Does anyone have an Alienware laptop?

well im considering to acquire one, but just wondered if anyone has or has had one before what did you think of it?
better brand other than Alienware? well im not after desktops , i like big lappys so that when i go away i take it with me, there's no way in hell im leaving my computer behind.... datas are irreplacable....dont tell me about clouds, servers, client terminals, remote with android i know all of and do all of this ... just want to get a decent 16-32GB ramed beasts and would last 5 years easy (that is If it that reliable to last that long) i read MSI Dragon GT70 have the new Haswell i7 cores , supposed to be 50% more efficient than previous models ....
 
In my opinion if you want a system that will easily last 5 years look at a tower or a desktop instead of a laptop. I know it may not be what you're looking for but laptops just are not built to last a long time due to all the components getting crammed in there and overheating problems are common.

Dell makes some good towers and if you do not really need to be mobile all the time it's a good option. I have a tower from 10 years ago that still works and I only retired it because it has Windows 2000 which isn't compatible with new software today. And my current Dell tower is a little over 5 years old with more life to go.
 
I bought an Alienware M17x laptop with my Army bonus a number years ago, I regret the purchase. You're buying the name, not a great machine and if you have to repair anything on it, replacement parts cost a small fortune. The screen for my laptop broke a couple years ago when I closed the screen on the mouse because I was in a hurry to leave, screen ended up costing over $300 and had to take the computer apart to the motherboard to disconnect, whereas my old Dell laptop I could just remove the screws around the screen and plug a new one in really quick.

Also, replacement batteries on Alienwares cost a fortune to replace. Not worth it at all. If you don't really need the mobility and laptop is just a preferance, build your own desktop gaming rig, you'll save money and get more for that money, even on a budget build.

I still have my M17x, I keep it running, but the battery is shot and you can't just update your GPU driver, you have to mod the .ini file to do it, otherwise Alienwares will tell you the driver update isn't compatible.


Want to know more just ask, I;d be happy to answer my years of Alienware experience. Toshiba isn't a great choice either, my friend has never stopped having issues with his Toshiba and almost got ripped of by the service people when he sent it in under warranty for repairs.

Depend, Tell me what you use laptop for? 5 years for Alienware? Haha, Won't happen. Too many of my friends bitched about Alienware got overheat and died in around 2 years.
 
Alienware suck. Believe me.... got couple of it for work purpose... one did overheated and been going through lot of BSOD, hard to get right driver for it.

Junk it few year later.

What brand would you recommend? I love mac laptop but cant afford to spend over 500.

for $500 range.... I got a Lenovo Yoga... kinda underpowered for my taste but perfectly good enough for traveling purpose because I don't want to carry my expensive MacBook around.
 
Friend of mine has an Alienware laptop.. In fact I think the same as Saavik's or similar model. So far it's hanging in there but I do know they have had major problems with the power cord and charging the battery. I think there has been other problems but don't recall off hand what they are.

Asus might be a good one. Dell does make good laptops. Mine is 5 years-- oops 6 years old now and still runs pretty well- I do need to clean it up though. HP is OK also.
 
Dell XPS? what about MSI Golden Dragon GT70 or lower speced GE70 heard good things about these?

Again, it's all depends. What you use it for? Edit video? Gaming? Web design? Programmer? Email/internet? Video streaming? Presentation? VP?

Macbooks are best recommend for edit video, web design, group video phone, Presentation, etc.

PC laptop? All depends like Intel Atom, i3, AMD, VIA, etc which right for you.

Forgot about that, but yeah, the power cord like to randomly stop charging, the battery is crap rather quickly and super expensive to replace, so I don't. Not to mention the laptop weighs like 13 or more pounds, which is heavy to carry around for a laptop.

Biggest issue by far is when you want to upgrade the GPU driver, it always say it's incompatible, leaving you having to edit the .ini file every time just to update your driver, which isn't hard if you know what you're doing, but is a major pain in the butt.

i3 still good for web design, streaming, Presentation, and VP. Again, it's all depends what you needs.
 
bit of video editing, games, watching movies, and to have a lot of headrooms, for these whenever it gets big....
