Does anyone else here enjoy words?

I do enjoy them and the clever ways they can be used. I wish I lived back in the 1800 romantic period, (I don't know that I would be able to enjoy it for I am sure I would have been a slave, servant or still in Africa :giggle:) but I would have loved to have the quick witty conversations of those days. One of my favorite lines from a favorite movie, "may I ask why you answer with so little civility"... who talks like that anymore *sigh*

I sure don't. I can't pronounce many of the words that I know so my speech is monosyllabic. I would speak like that if I could pronounce many of the words I know.

There are three kinds of language usage:
  1. language you use speaking.
  2. language you use writing.
  3. language you use reading.
Speech doesn't necessarily relate to what you can process in your mind.

Writing and reading are what I meant when I responded that I like words.

Speech is a problem for me , like a lot of other people here. But it does not dissuade me from loving words.

...and your words are like weapons, you keep them inside but they cut like a knife and you keep it together. All those feelings inside and there's no where to hide, but away from me. But I all want to do is listen to your..... words. :) (Awesome lyrics by Darren Hayes, ha! Imagine that.)

I heart Shakespeare.

:h5:

He's the man who started it all. What's your favorite of his plays?

Very hard for me to decide, but it could be Measure for Measure or The Winter's Tale

I like anagrams and palindromes. Which word games do you enjoy? My favorite palindrome is credited to Napoleon. "Able was I ere I saw Elba." As you see, it can be read from the left or right, pivoting upon the word "ere".

I like Shakespeare I think my favorite is Othello but I really like the movie romeo and juliet with L. Dicaprio, most people don't like it because they can't understand what they are saying but I can oh and the music I LOVE that soundtrack

I guess you can say I like "swifties." Some examples are :
"Are you an animal?" she howled.
"Time to feed the hogs," he grunted.
"The fire's not fanned enough!" he bellowed.
"I told you that wasn't a blackbird," he crowed.
"I manufacture bras," he tittered.
"Someone cut the cheese," he fumed.
"You're wearing me down," he rasped.

You get the drift. Silly, I know, but I love to be on the lookout for them.

That R&J is the best movie version of a Shakespeare play, bar none! I love the modern interpretation, Mercutio as a drag queen, John Leguizamo as Tybalt, the gang wars, etc. It's fantastic, and Danes and DiCaprio nailed their roles. For me, that movie shows everything that is great about Shakespeare and also how his words are still very much relevant in today's society.

Othello is a great play, too. Dealt with some interesting racial topics far ahead of the times.

That's tough for me to decide! Merchant of Venice is one of the ones I like. Othello is good too, although I found it to be disheartening how he lost everything.

I think I read somewhere that the actor Patrick Steward once played every role in Merchant once. That would have been fun to see. He is a very talented actor. He may be better known to some as Captain Picard of Star Trek TNG.

Scrabble player here...love the game and play it as often as I can. Trying to find a willing partner has been hard tho'. Most everyone is so busy these days....or it might be they don't wanna lose to a deafie!?? HAHA
