Well, I am not askin' for your own words without source. I am askin' OceanBreeze for source since she brought up about the Livin' Will that is in existence. Please, allow her to respond. :ty:

Google is your friend. Thank you.

It died as you stated ? It didn't die until her husband starved her to death. She died by starvation in the hands of her husband. It means to end livin' or life.

Her husband did not starve her to death. Her body starved itself to death becuase it did not even have the capability to experience hunger, much less nourish itself.

He didn't personally remove the articficial nutrition. He did not do anything to put her body in the state of illness and injury it was in that led to her not being able to take nutrition through usual means. Never once after the feeding tube was removed did Teri Shivo ask for food.

Let's put it in another way. Theoretically, let's say that someone's heart does not supply enough oxygen to the brain (or there is some clot in the brain), so we have to MANUALLY feed the brain oxygen to keep the body alive. However, the brain died earlier since there was no oxygen for a brief period of time. If we stop supplying oxygen to the brain, the body will die. Is this something you'd keep supplying?

Then who asked to stop feedin' Terri ? Who withheld food and water from her for 2 weeks before her heart stopped workin' ?

Once the heart stops beatin', then she is pronounced dead totally.

The doctors that removed the feeding tube under an order from the court.

Teri Shivo's body could not be nourished through any other than artificial means. She could not eat, she could not drink, she could not even experience the sensations of hunger and thirst because her brain was so injured. If your brain does not send the messages to your body, your body dies. The brain controls all of the bodies functions, from eating, sleeping, breathing, heart beating, to elimination of waste. If the brain can no longer tell the body to do these things, they don't get done and the body dies.

why worry about heart if the person is brain-dead which means... ZERO chance of recovery... ZERO chance of normality... there's no miracle at all... not even 0.001% unless Jesus Christ himself descended from the heaven and breathed a life into her. Why do you want a dead body to continue to live on by machines? Heart itself does not define a person... or a soul. It's in the brain and that brain is long gone long time ago.

Exactly. Autonomic activiity like heart beating and respiration are controlled by the brain. That is why doctors use brain death as the final criteria.

It would have been so cruel to leave Teri the way she was...beyond the point of no return.

This will never solve the problem.

Where does the prison-building end?

it'll end if capital punishment is here to stay and legalization of certain drugs... like :smoking: :cool2:

Source for the Livin' Will that was in existence before Terri Schiavo story began ?

The living will became law in 1991. This was 14 yrs before we heard of Terri Schiavo.

A copy of a living will, which is provided by Section 90-321, NorthCarolina General Statutes, is duplicated at the end of this publication. The law authorizing
this form became effective Oct. 1, 1991. You should ask your attorney's advice before
modifying the statutory form.Living wills signed under prior lawWhat is the legal effect of a living will signed under prior law? A living will signed before
Oct. 1, 1991, or signed using the old form is legally valid. However, the old living will

It's not that simple, it takes time to build new prisons, that may means transferring inmates, that's if their prison isn't overcrowded. :P

well it's simple math. For example - the prison's maximum capacity is 5,000 prisoners. If the capacity is up to 3,500 or so.. depending on the rate of incoming prisoners per month... it's time to build another prison. It'll be done for new prisoners once the prison is maxed out. It's actually pretty simple to build prisons since it's nearly bare minimum.

Yeah, they are supposed to plan ahead but that's easier said than done sometimes...

*pat on Jiro's back* I was never good at math.. but thanks anyways. :giggle:

oh mind you - this Prison Business is a serious business. Most of prisons are privatized and it's a $37 billion industry (price figure from 2006). Personally - I find this very distasteful.

My mom has told me REPEATEDLY to find a way to kill her legally if she ever gets to the point of a brain dead state or has terminal illness. I need to find a way to put this on paper or some other proof. In the case if people think, "Oh she has dementia, her daughter just wants to kill her for $$ or whatever", I'll have proof that this is what she wanted her whole life. It would be SO much easier if we can legalize assisted suicide.

Of course, every time she brings it up, I just respond with "Oh god mom! I don't want to think about that!" :)

just tell your mom to sign a DNR order.... it's not the same as Living Will but it'll have to do.

For your information, I ain't worry. It is just that I don't agree about the brain-dead thing that some of you believe it died first before the heart. Brain-dead don't make the body turnin' BLUE until the heart stops beatin' then it will turn BLUE - meanin' that the body is officially DEAD. :)

Well, that's for North Carolina. I am interested in ALL states, not just North Carolina or any state. I am interested in IF, the President DID signed the bill to pass for it to become LAW for ALL states to have the Livin' Will.

Thought you'd might be interested to know this: for biology, we did frog dissection. Instead of getting a bunch of frogs in formaldehyde, my teacher actually cut off their heads minutes before class started (disturbing I know). And we didn't know why until we opened them up... guess what? Their hearts were still beating even though their heads were completely cut off. Some students actually cut out the heart to re-enact the Indiana Jones scene and it STILL was beating for at least a minute or two. I have never been so disturbed and amused at the same time.
