If more people accepted deafness as a different way of being, then why would cures be called cures? A cure is a fix.

exactly.

There is saying when it comes to cures: What you never had, you won't miss it.

Hearing loss is a problem for millions of people. People are quite thankful of technology that gave them their hearing aids, for example.

Yeah, it's a problem because society has made it a problem.

It's not a disease.
I think it's up to the individual and their age. If we had a child that was born deaf and we found a way to reverse or "fix" the cause, would I opt for that? If the child was still fairly young, pre-puberty, I would take the chance. Older, it's up to that individual.
I would want my child to have every advantage possible in life, period. But at a certain age any difference becomes an identifier. Becomes part of who you are and how you interact and look at things.

I didn't say that.

The audists are just one example of a group that could be more accepting...quite possibly the group that is least accepting of deafness.

I totally agree..it is just too easy to make communication accessible to us nowadays but instead, they want us to conform to their way of communicating. I dont mind meeting in the middle but most of the time, society isnt willing to meet in the middle. It is an easy problem to solve. Oh well.

Another reason I am saying no is...

I do not want people to know who's farting in the room at the moment...

....ahhh there goes a good one.

It's like this, The right handed people don't make it easy on the left handed. when they design stuffs, they designed for the right handed people but not the left handed (computer mouse, scissors, etc.) . So the left handed are forced to be right handed. We buy ci and hearing aids because we don't have a choice. It's a hearing world... and right-handed world.

Good analogy.

Only damn reason why I wear a HA is because the majority are hearing. Many of my friends and family don't know ASL-- and most of my jobs require verbal communications stupidly enough.

My uncle is offering me a job where people only deal with text messaging and e-mails with BB-- but I am turning it down because... my family helped me out for a long time. it's about time I starting doing things myself. :\ Although if I had that job? I would never wear a HA again.

I remember watching my elementary teacher fussing at a girl for using her left hand. She kept telling her to practice writing with her right hand and I kept thinking, "leave her alone, if she is comfortable with her left hand and can get the job done and right, that's all it matters" Well not exactly, that thought but I was pretty upset with the teacher for making a big deal for using the wrong hand and wanted the teacher to leave her alone.I saw nothing wrong with her writing and couldn't understand it.

Nothing wrong in choosing and having a hearing aid or cochlear implant. As long as there is a choice, I'm fine with it.

No, it's a problem because they miss hearing their child sing or laugh. They miss being able to listen to the radio when they drive or get ready for work. They miss being able to hear different accents. They miss being able to hear waves crash on rocks and birds singing in spring. For people that want their hearing back it's because they miss things they enjoyed in the past. It doesn't have a F-ing thing to do with society.

I personally would support the deaf receiving every accomodation they receive now (more are needed actually) if a cure was found. People should be able to live the way they want. A cure would be nice for those that want it though.

Right. And they say this is a problem? It's only natural that they would want to see a cure for hearing loss as if they don't have any right to this dream of theirs. It gets a bit ridiculous when people scream something about audists. Need to lighten the load there a bit.
