Do you regret anything?

I just want to be more than last place. Plus, I was giving myself a refresher on the resume thing and I'm thinking "Crap!" Why? Because it's said you should include the previous 10 years employment history. I've had too many jobs in the last 10 years with gaps in my work history. This can't look good at all. I'm finding I just like the traditional work application where I only have to include the previous 5 years, most of which looks pretty good minus the termination from Tyson. I'm thinking BOA HR managers are going to look at that think, "This person can't keep a job, let's not even fuck with them." I feel like I would just be wasting my time and other people's time.

I worked for a while as a professional resume writer. CV writing has changed since the invention of the internet which now allows for employers to get 10 times the resumes they used to go. They do NOT like lengthy resumes and they don't have time to read them.

Some guidelines for CV. Only one page. Everything has to fit on one page. Start off with a paragraph about your best assets and skills and how they relate to the job you're applying for. Think about it from your employer's point of view - he wants to know why he should hire you, what have you got to offer him? What can you bring to the table that would be a benefit to the company? Highlight all your strengths.

Do not list all previous jobs. Only list past work experiences relevant to the job you're applying for. It doesn't necessarily have to be the same field as long as skills and education you've gained from certain past jobs are relevant to the job you're applying for.

and lastly, but definitely not least, print your name in size 24pts or bigger. Make it big and noticeable.

Hope this helps.

If I posted work that was only relevant to this job, it would have VERY large gaps in my work history which would make them nervous at best.

I will say my stint as a cashier at WM for 6 mos may have prepared me for this type of work, along with working as an enumerator for the US Census Bureau and as a substitute teacher. All of them gave me exposure to people of all backgrounds and dealing with them more directly than just working as a poultry processor. Only problem is, that was well over two years ago and I am coming up on my 1-year-termination date from Tyson. If you are terminated you have to wait a full-year before you are allowed to reapply for a position.

Plus there's a bunch of stuff BEFORE PJP that doesn't look good - that was back when I was in a bad way so to speak. After PJP, I got my shit together and decided I was going to try to do something with my life.

not really. that's what job interview is for. they ask you questions and you answer it the best you can.

there you go. remember - when you answer their questions, it's a job interview... not counseling session. no novel-like answer. no detailed answer. keep your answers relevant and to the point...

speak with confidence. do not exhibit nervous attitude - not looking at them in the eyes, frequent shrugging, frequent "um... uh... yea you know... ", and repetitive movement such as rotating chair around or shaking leg or finger twitch.

lastly... smile and laugh :)

See my above post for my reasons - mainly, I don't want my DD and I out on the streets with no where to go. That's how rabid my parents are about maintaining a full-time job while under their roof. When I don't work - shit hits the fan around here and I'm reminded that I've failed another time.

I just feel like if I finish that degree and get me a good paying job, my parents will finally be proud of me. But they watch me screw up and they think I will never get any better. Heck, they didn't even plan on me going to college at all, dad just wanted me to go to junior college for a while then drop out and either go to work in the chicken plant or get on disability. I found that out through my mom.

whoa there, nellie. you think too much. you're over-analyzing.

keep it simple. this is not complicated lol. just like train - there's always another one next time.

That's ok, don't worry about gaps. Anyone submitting a CV will have gaps when they only post past work experiences relevant to the job they're applying for. Nearly every client I had said the same thing as you, and nevertheless they got hired anyway. It's all about marketing yourself and proving you have the skills and achievements that makes you worthy of being hired.

I regret never having gone to college, but then again, if I had, then I would not have my wonderful, but exasperating hubby and my two kids.

One just never knows how things would have looked if different things happened. That's why it is best to take things as a lesson learned and forge ahead to new things.

i have big regrets about a few mistakes i made in the past, but i learned from them and it has made me grow as a person. i'm grateful for that

Yeah I regret talking to a woman in a store today that I thought
was something wrong with her ,but decided to see if I could be wrong. It turn out I was right ! The woman told me been out of the country for 13 years and has conversed to Islam , then she started ranting how the Jews control the world and are the blame for every!! and she said "My daddy told me this all my life!" I told her I am Jewish and that that she is Anti Semitic and get away from me!! I just came from the food doctor and had part of a toe nail removed and was not in the mood to get into debate with an Anti Semitic bitch! I really regret not listening myself that that woman was strange in a bad way!! I know I had said there are people that still think Jewish people are blame for everything that going on bad in the world and I run into one !!

In today's economy, I'm sure they see lots of resumes with gaps, etc. There are different "forms" of resumes and I believe one is more "skills" oriented than "timeline". Your department of labor may have services available to help you write a resume.

Yeah and in doing so, I will very likely get thrown out of the house without my apartment being available which leaves me no place to go. I'm not going to put my DD in that position.

It would be nice if I could work something out with someone where I can temporarily rent from someone until my apartment becomes available and just come back and announce that I'm quitting work to go to school full-time on student loans and that I have a place for my DD and I. But reality is - that never happens. I just really want to get off the farm and go back to school.

You can easily find a roommate in the DC area and go to Gallaudet University. So many deaf poeple are always in a need of a roommate. Heck, I have a spare room that I could rent out if I wanted to.

Big regret: Getting into debt like I did...still working my way out of it.

Little regret: none so far..I have been doing good this week despite being so overworked but the demands from my job are not in my control so I cant regret them.

I feel for you. I am getting into debt like everyone else.

I regret that I am wasting my time with people who don't give a damn about me. :eek3:

Lastly, I have no regrets.
