Do you have a contingency plan?

the point is - the disaster that you are more likely to encounter is the Earth-based disaster..... not space-related disaster. I've already showed you several links including NASA's statement about the solar storm that was issued for past several years. nothing happened.

I read the link and I appreciate you posting it. The reason nothing has happened is because they were predicting the solar storm to be in Mid May of 2013.

If I am reading their information correctly, the Sun goes through a cycle every 11 years. Then, it reverses its magnetic pole every 24 years. I still don't "get" how they figured this solar maximum beginning in 2012 is going to be catastrophic. I am not a scientist "obviously", but they are and a whole team of experts have concluded that this solar maximum is going to be like the one in 1859 that knocked out the telegraph poles in the US and Europe.

But .... a whole group of highly educated scientists have been wrong before (I AM taking it with a grain of salt ;) ) Maybe they just want to scare people into pushing Congress to up their budget, who knows :dunno:

After reading the official NASA report on it, I am beginning to understand a little better on how they have come to this conclusion:

http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2009/29may_noaaprediction.htm

"Even a below-average cycle is capable of producing severe space weather," points out Biesecker. "The great geomagnetic storm of 1859, for instance, occurred during a solar cycle of about the same size we’re predicting for 2013."

maybe I should have posted this in the "What song are you listening to now" thread but I felt it would be more appropriate here

That's great, it starts with an earthquake, birds and
snakes, an aeroplane and Lenny Bruce is not afraid.
Eye of a hurricane, listen to yourself churn - world
serves its own needs, dummy serve your own needs. Feed
it off an aux speak, grunt, no, strength, the Ladder
start to clatter with fear fight down height. Wire
in a fire, representing seven games, and a government
for hire at a combat site. Left of west and coming in
a hurry with the furys breathing down your neck. Team
by team reporters baffled, trumped, tethered cropped.
Look at that low playing. Fine, then. Uh oh,
overflow, population, common food, but it'll do to Save
yourself, serve yourself. World serves its own needs,
listen to your heart bleed dummy with the rapture and
the revered and the right, right. You vitriolic,
patriotic, slam, fight, bright light, feeling pretty
psyched.

It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.

Six o'clock - TV hour. Don't get caught in foreign
towers. Slash and burn, return, listen to yourself
churn. Lock it in, uniforming, book burning, blood
letting. Every motive escalate. Automotive incinerate.
Light a candle, light a motive. Step down, step down.
Watch your heel crush, crushed, uh-oh, this means no
fear cavalier. Renegade steer clear! A tournament,
tournament, a tournament of lies. Offer me solutions,
offer me alternatives and I decline.

It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.

The other night I dreamt of knives, continental
drift divide. Mountains sit in a line, Leonard
Bernstein. Leonid Brezhnev, Lenny Bruce and Lester
Bangs. Birthday party, cheesecake, jelly bean, boom! You
symbiotic, patriotic, slam bug net, right? Right.

It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel
fine...fine...

NASA - New Solar Cycle Prediction

ok then.... if the cycle is every 11 years.... and reverse polarity is every 24 years.... then what happened 11 years ago? and 24 years ago? we were fine :)

24 years ago I was Partying like it was 1999

11 years ago I was partying because it WAS 1999.

Now......just lost

that's for safety reason but if it's stolen.....
If you die from the fumes it won't matter.

Safety comes first.

Would you run your car in the garage with the door shut?

A gas-powered generator is for emergency back up use, not every day all-day or all-night use. When it's not running, lock it in the garage or shed. When it's running, attach it to the house with a heavy chain and keep an eye on it.

I'm also hearing some reports from couple of my friends who live in towns 40 min south - where I graduated from. It's also notorious for flood cuz of Raritan River. His house is partially flooded. Some highways are flooded. Some parts of NYC is flooded.

oh boy..... it's a mess...

it's mainly cuz of risk of fire even in ventilated garage.

The fire is a maybe happen.

Exhaust fumes are for sure happen.

Either way, it is NOT safe.

If you don't run a car, grill, deep fryer, or lawn mower in the garage, why should you run a generator in the the garage? It's not safe.

Do you especially want to risk fire danger during a time when you might not have running water or the fire fighters can't get to you? No.

I agree with you.....I have done it in the past but it probably not a good idea.

But, why would you want to run the mower in the garage? (j/k)

open the garage door? :dunno:

Maybe I'm thinking like this cuz not a lot of people can afford one of those juicy generators. I was thinking of some puny one size good enough to run few appliances. and keep a fire extinguisher handy!

You keep getting rain and me and my juicy generators might have to make a run up there

That's not good enough. Besides, where's the security of an open garage door?

You mean like 1800 watts vs. 6000?

You can't depend on a one extinguisher to put out a house fire.

You have to decide if a generator is a necessity or a nicety. Evaluate your needs.

We went for a couple of weeks without electricity and no generator, just fine.

Don't forget, you have to also have enough gas to run a generator. It goes thru those cans pretty fast.

I do not have experience with generator so I wouldn't know. To me - the electricity is the very least of concern. Water & Security are top priority.

I used mine on jobs.....after fires there is no electric. Sometimes we would get a temp pole

Generators are nice...

For playing PlayStation in a trailer.

Or keeping snakes alive in middle of winter during a power outtage.
