Why does that differ from your statement in the past when you said the deaf have bad english because they're deaf?

PFH and Beclak, why do you keep manufacturing "Evil Things That FJ Has Said" that don't actually exist other than in your imaginations? Don't you have enough differences with what she really does post to address?

It is not a manufacture of what she said. She SAID it, and got banned for it.

I even asked her to clarify, and she repeated it! It was the posts numbered #3, and #42 she made in that thread that pretty much solidified what she was saying. Too bad the thread was deleted. Thread locked/deletion was common when FJ was regularly posting. I'll ask you this, how many threads were locked/deleted since she was away?

You were not here for that. It was out there on the forum for about an hour and 15 minutes.

You can and you have, dear Botti, otherwise you would not be able to read or write fluently either. And that you do excellently. That is just my point. Articulation has nothing to do with language. You don't need to speak or articulate to master a language both in written and spoken forms. For example: ee as in see; ea as in bread; i_e as in bike - when there are 2 vowels the first says its name, the second is silent. You can read the mechanics of the spoken language and understand the phonics without access to sound.

You may be using words differently than me. "Mechanics of spoken language" to me would just be producing clear understandable speech.

I have mastery of English, but not mechanics of spoken language.

I thought she got banned for calling you a jackass (in a mean way, and not in the loving way I use)?

That probably was the second ban just right after the first ban that I just talked about. The first ban was 2 days, the second was a week.

Yes, :D You can read and understand the way phonics work without necessarily making a sound. Therefore, you have mastered the mechanics of the spoken language too without access to sound and without speaking. So you do have mastery of the mechanics of the spoken language too, Botti :applaud:

It's like the simple fact I don't speak and I can't hear.... I still correct how people speak. I see what you mean.

I remember this. This all happened within the same week. That was a bad week of posting !!

:) I feel like i'm driving in a car with two little kids in the back seat arguing with each other.

Let's see if this stops the arguing... If you kids dont quiet down i'm going to pull this car over!!! Gotta wait to see if that stops the arguing here. :)

If you need to talk about it why not start a different thread. It really sucks having to scroll through all the pages of arguing just to get to answers that are helpful to me.

Danb, ugh, you are right -- I'm very sorry!

That is pretty tame from what I've become accustomed to. :giggle:

I seriously doubt you're right about shel. That is your tagline, you always use "perhaps" this or that, pulling people down if they say they're happy and all, with minimal equipment and using ASL. I say FUCK YOU to people like you.

I am 100% happy, really.

Give you an example here.

Two nights ago I walked four miles to a bus stop, stopped to get change and that took longer than expected.

I come out and see the bus - I start jogging over, and it started leaving! Being the athletic prowess I am, I RAN. Thankfully I chased the bus down. I was able to board it, paid.

It went north, and I wanted to go south. FUCK. The bus driver also made it clear where he was going. I just didn't bother to lip read.

I got off at the next stop 2 miles away. I had missed the last bus of the day because this bus went north and the southbound bus I wanted to be on left 2 minutes later and looked exactly the same.

Do I mope over that? No. I was pissed at myself. Not because I was deaf. Because I had at least FOUR ways to know what was going on, and I did not pay attention to them.

But now I laugh at the experience. A great learning experience.

BTW: I hopped onto the bus in the morning.

Double BTW: I'll be watching you and your shady tactics. I'll be calling it out. I don't appreciate it at all.
I have just as much right to state my thoughts, opinions and feelings on various deaf / hoh / hearing loss topics as you do in AD. After all, the culturally deaf don't owe this forum, you know.

Sure I got my problems but at least I am not stuck in an environment where I was constantly left out and missing out on information and communication by pretending I was hearing 24/7.

Sure I got problem with the Deaf community sometimes but the whole point is about equal access to language and communication. Who likes to live a life constantly asking people to repeat what they say only to get "Never minds" or "I will tell you later."

I just find that hard to believe that someone is happy that way because it is human nature to want to connect with others equally.

Since learning ASL and discovering the Deaf community at 25 years old, I finally was able to love myself ...well, if my body would be rock hard, I could love myself more.

I think others know what I mean. :cool2:
I'm just going to refrain myself from even participating in such discussions from this point on. As some of you AD'ers make it so obvious that it's only okay for the "culturally Deaf" to state their thoughts, opinions or feelings on such matters as it isn't for the oral deaf, hearing-impaired or hard of hearing. So on that note, I'll just say good riddance and cya!

i have never spoken about articulation, you have.

cis give access to sound. The best, easiest, and most effetive way to learn spoken language is through hearing fluent spoken language and learning it. You can learn it other ways, but often that means years of hard therapy, struggles understanding (because of lipreading) and often huge language gaps.

That has nothing to do with written english fluency. I have repeatedly said that written english fluency has nothing to do with sound.

what exactly are you thinking i'm saying?

Why does that differ from your statement in the past when you said the deaf have bad english because they're deaf?

what i actually said what that many deaf people have poor english skills because they did not have access to language as young children OR that they struggle because english is not their first language.
