Seattle Seahawks fullback Derrick Coleman has been arrested on suspicion of vehicular assault and hit-and-run, both felonies, police said on Thursday, and the NFL team has suspended him indefinitely.

Coleman, 24, was being held without bail pending a court hearing in Seattle's King County Correctional Facility as of Thursday afternoon, according to jail records.

What a huge blow for deaf community.
 
According to his personal website, Coleman is the only hearing-impaired player currently in the National Football League, the only legally deaf player in the history of the NFL, and he spends time supporting deaf youth.

No wonder the joke for NFL is it's called National Felony League. If anything, it's nice to know even the deaf can be equal opportunity offenders.
 
Any driver involved in a collision knows that you don't leave the scene of the accident, especially when there are injuries involved.

The only reason he maybe didn't "understand" what was going on was because he was under the influence of some chemical. Nothing to do with deafness.
 
I read the article and found this quote:

Officers found him eight minutes after the accident standing barefoot two blocks from the scene, Mylett said, standing along the roadway on Southeast 37th Street.

Coleman was cooperative when officers contacted him, the chief said.

So it makes you wonder, why did he go two blocks away? And he did cooperate with the police, which rules out the deafness issue. Deaf or not, you don't simply just walk away, he could at least see if the victim was all right. I could somewhat understand "leaving" to find someone to call for help but he didn't do that and simply just stood barefoot.
 
Very strange! Sigh, yes even if he didn't understand what the hearing police was saying he would know to stay put. Sorry to see this happen :-(

read carefully. read end of the paragraph it said the attorney for derrick coleman said he may fell asleep behind the wheel.. sheesh should drank coffee or something to stay alert.. happened to my 2 cousins' 2 boyfriends that fell asleep behind wheel long time ago but they never made it. they died instantly... so he's lucky that he's still alive..

We'll have to wait for the toxicology report on his blood test.
