Sosie, also appreciate the info. about the Maytags - we have Whirlpool.

hubby determined it was some kind of valve - it wasn't filling properly or consistently; repair-person confirmed it and replaced it- 15 minutes - done! Haven't had really any dishes to run through it but supposedly it's fixed. Test comes tonight...

Kristina, i think that's pretty impressive about the dishwasher you have being 25 years old!

Good luck with your fridge and freezer!

My dishwasher is working fine so far. Whew!

Do you have a home warranty that can cover the repair costs?

My mom replaced our 19 yr old dishwasher last summer. I think it's a Samsung. And it worked WONDERFUL....till November. It wouldn't start, and a light on the front panel would flash.

My mom called the repair guys. The came in and took a look and found that the entire front electronics panel was the wrong part. In the manufacturing they put the wrong electronics in.I told her that she could have sued Samsung. But she refused, and the repair guy put the right part in, no charge.

You are welcome!
So, how it did go after you tested it last night? I do hope it is working fine. You didn't say how old your dishwasher is? Dogmom, I came across this link -
Whirlpool® Recall Information - DishWasher . Interesting!

Shel:wave: not sure if your ques. about warranty was related to me, if so, nope, we didn't have one anymore - though we do now, for the specific part he replaced. It's a one-yr. warranty.
:ty: Sosie! for the link to the Whirlpool site:)
think the dishwasher is about 5 years old.

last night, test run, it worked good -whew!

Last year, my GE dishwasher (it came with the house when we brought it) and it's only about 8 or 9 years olds and the problem was the touch panel quit. it cost about 140 dollars to replace it. I said, "forget it" so I decided to replace dishwasher, fridge and stove with matching microwave. All by Kenmore Elite. $2000 for dishwasher, $3000 for Fridge, and $2000 for stove. I want to have matching Stainless steel plus super high energy saver. It turned out that it really does save electricity. Dishwasher doesn't need much water and have no disposal pump (that what save electricy). All is nice!

One evening, my youngest boy loaded up the dishwasher. We were out of d/w detergent...so he used Dawn dish lotion.....
When I came downstairs later, the kitchen floor was flooded with bubbles....

Had to run the cycle over and over to get rid of the mess!....*Don't try this at Home!*

Well - my back-up dishwasher decided not to work and I had to do it. ... Oh! ....Wait a minute, the backup is my mother. So silly of me. We handwash a lot since MIL's dishwasher is crappy.

Glad it worked!!! Yay!!!

Maytag has been out of business for a couple of years now hasn't it? I remember the Maytag Man on TV when I was a kid.

As far as dishwashers go, I recommend NOT buying a Bosch. We have one and from the get go it has been giving us problems. It's functioning, but the dishes never come out clean despite using the recommended soap and correct dish placement. We tried various combinations but nothing really works. We end up doing more dishes in the sink than in the dishwasher now. This will be the last dishwasher my parents will purchase. When this one goes out, I am sure they will remove it and find something to fill the space up. Probably make added storage space.

We have a Maytag store in my city. When I moved to my condo I used my dish washer and did not realize the last person the live here left a broken knife blade in the dish washer and I turned it on. I started to smell something burning and call the fire department! One fire got his hand burned a little I felt awful , and my dish washer was getting on fire! I would love to take out my broken dis washer and put a washing machine so I will not have to use the same one the rest of people use in my condo building!

Oh My Gawd!! That's almost funny. I had a friend who did that once, she was completely new to the idea of an automatic dishwasher. She told me she just put some Dawn in there and let it run through and forgot about it. When her hubby come home from work and saw the mess he liked to have shit a golden brick. They ended up having to replace the dishwasher as the Dawn messed up some part of it. She is under strict orders to NEVER use the dishwasher, so now her husband is the one that does the dishes. :giggle:
