Deer Meat

They often say "if you prepare it right, it will taste good"; however, the first step toward that end is the moment you down the animal, the first thing you need to do is remove its scent glands, otherwise the odor will permeate the meat.

Heath, you say you like deer jerky but don't like venison. Just what do you think venison is?
 
I've had Venison once as a kid, and did not like it. I've also tried duck and goose, and wasn't fond of that, either. Too gamey for me. heh

I love deer meat if properly cooked,
EXCEPT that deer hit by a car no way...

If the deer was hit by a car/truck, then it is NOT GOOD
to eat that deer !! If it got killed properly, then its meat
will taste very good and soft... BUT if it was hit by a car/truck,
then it will taste very bad and tough... No good...
 
Yes I have had them...even we have some in freezer! :) A friend of our go hunting and sometimes they give us some if we do some work at their house. :) Ummm you made me thinking cook one this week!
 
Yes, I like venison, cooked various ways, including jerky.

I know what vension is ... I just don't like the taste of vension. I like deer jerky or deer steak better. Yes it is better to gut the animal the moment the deer goes down also, after many hours of walking and hunting. It is nice to get your hands warm for a good change. :mrgreen:
 
I do not like deer meat it tasted awful I don't know why I wanted to try it but I know for sure I will not eat deer meat again.

no, I never had deer meat before. I would love to try some someday! I already had buffalo meat before, it's tasty! :)

I refuse to touch deer meat no matter either you said taste is super or not... nooooooooooooooo.... My hubby loves to eat deer meat... he only eat deer meat when we are at resturant because he knows that I won't cook deer meat.

I know. That meat tasted a bit chewy. Heh! :)
 
It's too bad that you guys ate the deer meat. Don't you realize that they do not kill people? Even for cows, too. :madfawk:
 
It's all about population control, that's why we kill them for food. Deer population explodes and there's not enough food for them and we keep them under control. Wild animals kill them, we kill them, and keep them in stable population numbers.
 
I made lasagna with deer meat. It was very hot item at the potluck!

I love Deer Meat! I LOVE ANY OF MEAT! But I bet some of meat that I dont try since, but I would admit to try them! ;)

I thank my daddy for hunting deer :giggle: and I want to take class to getting my hunting license so I can hunt for deers and any wild animals ;)

This is still bugging me after several attempts to get you to realize something: Venison IS deer meat! Deer meat IS venison!

Trust me hon, you wouldn't like the taste of it, I didn't at all, my ex husband is a hunter and he does kill deers for meat and to show off the deer heads on the wall too..... :shock:

I know what deer vension is. I am a deer hunter myself and grew up with guns and hunting. I did not need to answer that one.
