I and Abel went to poker tonight and there were talk about someone having died. ASL is NOT my forte, so I had trouble understanding our other friends. I had to ask 2 different people for clarification. Apparently our friend Cheryl Mohlenhoff went in for her knee surgery, and they gave her one dose of anesthesia to put her under. She didn't fall asleep, so they gave her 3 more doses. It caused so much damage to her heart that I guess she went into cardiac arrest but she was revived and she was in the hospital for 2 weeks. She came home Wednesday night and I spoke to her on AIM that night...she tried to explain to me what happened, but I could not understand her very much since English wasn't her forte. All I got was that she had a heart problem during surgery, and "pn"....her word...she was trying to tell me that she got pneumonia too...I didn't know what "pn" meant until today when someone else clarified it for me. Anyway, we got to the bar and the other deafies were talking about Cheryl, they were talking about she's dead....I couldn't understand what they were saying, and finally I couldn't stand it anymore and asked someone to straight up clarify for me. Apparently on Thursday or Friday night, she began having trouble breathing, and was rushed to the ER...they worked on her...managed to kind of revive her like 3 or 4 times but she got completely brain damaged and went into a coma. She is now brain dead, and the hospital is waiting on her family to come down here and sign all the paperwork and take her off of life support tonight.
We are waiting to find out about the funeral arrangements. Depending on when the funeral is and if its before my surgery date or if its long enough after surgery day, we will go to the funeral...I do not know if I can handle going to the funeral. I have not gone to a funeral since my mother died...so it is going to be very uncomfortable.
Rest in Peace, Cheryl.
