You know how people pick on us because we're deaf???

You know that a lot of people get a car with turbocharged engine and get critized for not using full power of turbo engine??

Believe it or not, but that happened to me in high school. I think that is why I can deal with negative perspectives of being deaf.

I got a 1993 Eclipse GSX AWD turbo and I drove slow a lot. I did like the car. Just don't let people ridicule you for being yourself. That can include getting a turbocharged car and not using turbo to full potential.

How many people get ASL book and are not expert on ASL yet?? They didn't use book to full potential, but please don't criticize them. They like to read ASL books just like I used to like driving a car with turbo engine.

Your point is well taken. However, given the gas prices today, I doubt anyone would tell you to drive fast today. So, times have changed.

My friend owns an insurance company. He drives his grey porsche. It is his customed design that meet his specific needs. It is not his dream to drive a fast car. He polishes his car and rims extremely fussy. He said to me that he is married to his porsche, and he paid 100,000 for the customed design. Yike! Actually, he is married. Yes, it's better for you to drive slow especially if you really love your car that makes you happy.

I understand ASL is a communication system utilizing "hand signs/facial gestures" to impart "one's thoughts" rather than spoken. Thus reading a text book on ASL will never get one to be "fluent" without extensive practice.
Also becoming DEAF isn't exactly a "voluntary action" thus one can't be "blamed" for the condition. How one deals with it-is "voluntary" eg. use ASL et al/ or Cochlear Implant-if suitable.

Yeah, reading ASL book is not enough to get good on ASL.

Reading book on how to prepare yourself to go 150 mph can only get you so far.

Eventually the person will have to do some "field" exercises.

I have no comment on turbocharged cars-don't drive-to this day.
