HI, All

I have asked Alex for permitting me to post this thread and he granted it. Anyway, remember this, it is UP to you to donate a small money to DeafHope (it is purely optional, not mandatory). If you have any questions, pm me or email Kate Bennitt.

Here is her letter to me, so I thought I want to share it with you all...

DeafHope

Dear Kim,

Season Greetings! My name is Kate Bennitt, Chair of DeafHope's Board of Directors. DeafHope is a domestic violence and sexual assault services in Northern California which opened this year

This year, DeafHope was founded on volunteer basis in Sacramento. Recently, DeafHope expanded its volunteer advocacy services to San Francisco Bay Area to fill in the service gaps. This month, we are opening two offices, one in Hayward to serve the Bay Area and one in Rocklin to serve Sacramento area. . On January 1, 2004, we will launch a toll free hotline number for the Deaf survivors and the number is 1-866-DeafHope. We have a website under construction at www.Deaf-Hope.org. All of this is made possible because of the generous offer of volunteer time and donations.

I talked to several people and learned that many do not realize that Deaf people are affected by domestic violence and sexual assault, since our community is small and information like this is usually not shared openly. It could happen to anyone. It happened to me.

On behalf of DeafHope Board of Directors, I invite you to our Circle of Giving to support the Deaf survivors, especially women an children, who are escaping violent environments. Each Board member or volunteer invited ten friends or family members to join the circle of giving by donating at least $10.00 each. Your name was recommended by Julie Rems-Smario for your support and contributions.

DeafHope Board of Directors and volunteers look forward to having YOU to join us to make the support services even stronger in 2004 with your donation. You can write your check payable to DeafHope and mail to:

DeafHope 22418 Mission Blvd., Hayward CA 94544

Please contact me if you have any questions about DeafHope, at this email Kate@Deaf-Hope.org. I hope you have wonderful Holidays and a Happy New Year!

In Spirit of Giving,

Kate Bennitt, Board Chair

Good deal, Cheri! :thumb: Now if we could just get a few more people to open their wallets…

A hundred years from now, it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove. But the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child.

I'd rather help the general public instead of just deaf people in California.

california is the best and the model for other states.......such as when the ADA and all the disability accomodation that was required, Cali was already doing it and the other states copying cali as the model.......so its good that cali is doing somethng for deaf abused....

Time to bump this thread again. I received a hand written thank you card from DeafHope recently—it reads as follows:

Dear Eric,

I am amazed how you were directed to DeafHope via alldeaf.com. Thank you so much for your $**.** donation to DeafHope. Your support makes a difference in the lives of many Deaf survivors of domestic and sexual abuse.

With much gratitude,

Julie Rems-Smario,

DeafHope Executive Director

I’m beginning to think that all that stuff bbnt says about you is really true, Oddball. Maybe you need to stop playing with your um... "devices" and start reading your own threads. :P
