Hello Galaxy!!!

I did go to oral, deaf school then mainstream... I am very flexible with everyone! Um I went somewhere social! I only notice myself. Those deaf people who dislike people who have CI. Even so, I did chat with people with CI. They re prefer to with hearing people? MY guess, both are immature!! :dunno2:

Peace :D

I would learn about DeafHood on November in St Louis, MO.

Yeah, here in St Louis and Missy is one of commuitee for DeafHood. She who raised oral in her life and learned PSE in her 20's. She is very exciting to be involves with DeafHood. She did not think she is reject from her experience in her life with hearing and deaf people.

I, myself been born deaf all my life but been in mainstreamed for many years with hearing and deaf. I never think that I would be reject from deaf people, unless they think I am the TREP!!!! I not use oral to speak, my mouth opens always speaks in quietly, no one can hears me. winks! I do read lips and use sign language, no TALK at all.

I cant think any more feedback or discuss about it.

Are you saying that Deafhood means that only Deaf people who grows from birth to adult who goes to Deaf Institution and very fluent with ASL or any sign language? Right? I am familiar with other Deaf people who told me that they rejected Deaf people who goes to mainstream schools and prefer to be with hearing people (oral only environment and lipread, no sign language). I went to two mainstream schools which they don't allow us to learn and use sign language because the schools think that it is a bad language and we should learn to speak and lipread. But I did not want to be with hearing people to depend on lipreading and speak with them for communication which is kind of hard to do to understand. After I graduated from mainstream high school, I went to the Deaf Lutheran Church to learn English sign language. Sign Language opened a door for me and I was very happy to learn it and be involved with the Deaf community. They accepted me with open arms knowing that I preferred to be with Deaf people. If the hearing people were involved in the Deaf Social signing ASL, then I did not know that. Today, I have not been much with the Deaf Social and I find time to be with two to three Deaf people in another First Nation reserve which we four all live on the island. When we want to have Deaf Social, we went up to Sudbury and went into Canadian Hearing Society for Deaf Social. No we have not gone to Toronto or Ottawa for Deaf Social. Maybe someday and maybe not.

ive read the book, in fact i have it right next to me ! bloody good book, its a 'good starting point' dare I say, as Ladd is not just a visionary but also attempts to confront the constrainting effects which Deaf politics have on us now. He wrote of Deafhood as a means of unifying all deaf people, into a much bigger 'minority' group with a much bigger recognition. Very good ideas are all in there however one major flaw, it is STILL exhbiting that same tunnel vision of Deaf culturalist's wishes in so much emphasis soley on language at which point I think rights has alot more to do than just language!

DeafHood will meet on November 1, 2008 at GSLAD hall from 8am to 3pm.

There is three success people will give speak.... I am going!

Hey, Galaxy....

You know where I stand about that Deafhood. LOL however I bought a book by Paddy Ladd last month. No I haven't finished it yet. I haven't yet reserve my judgement on "Deafhood" as the other people claim. Keep in mind that is to each journey to recognize "deafhood" is to each own. Nothing is ever same with other people. Common? Yes but not whole. It varies.

Yes, that is right!

Deafhood sounded mere like a group of Deafies by immediate assumption or impression from us and whoever didn't know the word before... I thought at first, too... you know it sounded mere like ganghood. lol

But nope, its actual definition, coined by Paddy, actually explained that it meant just like what InsaneMisha explained above. I didn't read her book but learned from what others explained.

deafhood = deaf personal journey by individually with life experiences and such (using my simple definition from what I gathered)

Yes I agree. That is Paddy Ladd's original definition. You do not have to be born deaf, ASL does not have to be your first language. Deafhood is like childhood. It is the process of being deaf...the development of your life as a deaf person.

Yeah... deafhood = deaf childhood (couldn't be any clearer def.)

Thanks Etoile for extending its definition quite clearer.

You are correct. I use " Deafhood " for my other websites. :giggle:
