YORK, Pa. -- Police said a deaf woman fended off a carjacker in York on Saturday by screaming, kicking and hitting him until he gave up.
Jodi Sciortino couldn't hear the attacker threatening to kill her as he attempted to steal her car. But she could read his lips and said he yelled at her to get out of her car, told her to stop screaming and threatened to kill her if she didn't quit kicking him.
Police said they arrested the man later that afternoon after he carjacked another vehicle and led officers on a high-speed chase.
Gary Ensor, 38, of Newberry Township, was charged with aggravated assault, robbery and other offenses.
