With two MA's you may be overqualified. Try leaving one off the next resume and see what happens. A family friend had two MA"S and a PhD and couldn't get hired because he was overqualified and one person doing an interview told him they would look bad if they hired him and paid him what the position paid with his educational background. He left one of the MA's and his PhD off the next resume and got the job. Perhaps you need to leave NY and move to a state where the cost of living is cheaper; forget about CA, it will make NY look like a bargain!

Same with public schools teachers, cops, firefighters, and government employees. All paid by the taxpayers. At least these deaf people are employed and doing productive stuff with their lives.

Aww the one time I could have gone (but couldn't due to money issues...:( ). I'm in IT as well (QA Tester- mostly mainframe...).

LOL Thank you. If you do yes please send it. No worries.. half the positions I apply for lately are either already filled (internal candidate and all...) or they decided to "go with another candidate" even if my skills match (downside is the 'unemployment gap'...frustrating as !#%@*).
 
I finally landed a job with the Department of Education, full time, permanent. They said one moment I will have to use phone too, but they will provide the appropriate accommodation.

It's hard to have a good resume when you are hoh (since a very few employers use to hire ppl with impaired verbal skills). With three degrees, however, I made my way to DoE --insofar as DoE has to show somehow that it believes in education :)

Congratulations!

Sadly... I'm still struggling in finding any job right now. I'd go back to school if I could but... zero money or really too little money. So no idea what I'll do. I can still work-- I'm not ready for retirement yet though some people seem to think I am...Thhp.
 
Been reading a lot DeafBlind community suffers a lot as far as working .. we need a lot of accommodation also ssp to help us in the work place . I'm done with vr myself personally they would say things like .. keep your ssi ssd and not help send my to learn Braille and kinds things .not help me also try to use why I shouldn't because I have sezuires and myasthenia gravis .. a neuromuscular condition well I'm 35 and want to work to I'm trying to start my own business now .. wait for people to help sometimes it's better to just go do it without help .was going going to HKNC ..now doing it by myself .

I went to school while working and I had for four years a 13k loan. Now my loan has been reduced to 2500$ only and I hope to erase the whole amount in this month :)

I am not sure what kind of education you might be thinking about (on what level?) but I've pasted an illuminating article on what kind of majors you should look about. Find one major that does not need hearing/verbal skills, and in your state you may get your associate degree with a 8k loan :)

Some people take a 50k loan for a car. Why not to repay a 8k loan for an associate degree (in a community college) that may grant you a profession? ACCESS VR may pay for your education, also.

I considered an AA degree program here... am interested in staying in the IT field but programming and the course work for it has changed drastically since I last took classes through a 7 month program nearly 20 years ago. I've also considered "coding boot camps" as well but they're expensive. Personal loans... I did one about 4 years ago for debts etc... took forever to pay off until a relative loaned me money to pay it off completely (I'm still paying that one off but at least no added interest/fees..:P).

I may look into it again but the math courses (Statistics, Calculus) scare the poo out of me.

On the contrary.
Those who depend on "very expensive hearing technology" (I assume you mean CI, assistive listening devices and the likes) are usually those who grew up either as "hearies" or eventually turned into them thus got themselves independent and incorporated into workforce no plm.
Also, lets not exaggerate - what "super high healthcare costs"? would you care to specify?
and who is mainly going to pay for this "expensive hearing technology", themselves or the employer?

Bottom line - it's your audiogram that decide if you are deaf or not.

I think on the whole of course it has, because the better education the better job you may get, like anyone else.

but the problem lies not in the Deaf education (or lack thereof) but elsewhere - in the employer unwillingness to hire at all.
as Chris Soukup explains:

"our main barrier is getting employers to recognize value in our workforce".

and then he further goes on:

"CSD is committed to addressing this issue of unemployment".
then the banner pops up which says:
"Our community will play a greater role in US economy."

That means doesn't matter whether Deaf are educated or not - nobody is interested in hiring them anyway :(

I agree. But, it's not totally dismal, deaf are getting jobs. You need to be in the right place and you need to have the right education.
