I wanted to know why deaf children goes deaf school instead mainstream schools? I always goes to Mainstream schools, and tell ya truth I am actually against deaf schools because of their education. I want deaf people to be smart and wise. I went to VSDB and they didnt have english class! such shame. Then I moved to Sc and checked out SCSDB...NO English class! also they dont respect each other well. I cant live with people who show no respect. so my opinon is Mainstream Schools is much better than deaf schools. Hope I dont piss you guys off (laughs)

I was a mainstream student too, years ago. But we are small in number here.

How do you like my writing (based on all my posts). Is it good? Thanks to mainstreaming school.

I think you are just against ASL language.

Don't blame the mainstream. My writing is great.

But Joey, mostly this is what you will get if you dare to say you like the mainstream.

first of all, he thinks mainstreaming is "perfect" for the deaf.

Second, when you are deaf and mainstreamed, you learn about writing all on your own. Plus you need hearing aids (and depends on the level of hearing and if you are late-deafened) to keep up with hearing teachers.

well, not quite against ASL. I like ASL but we ALL need English for our jobs. SSI sucks hah. I can make more money than what SSI give me

That's nonsense. He didn''t say it was perfect.

And there are good writers from deaf schools and public schools.

What you actually write like is a hard of hearing person writing what they hear instead of looking visually at the word and knowing how it is spelled.

So you can't blame any school for your learning style.

or maybe little bit of both.

When it come to a command of English, I know plenty of hearing students that have a poor command of English. And I know plenty of Deaf people that have a wonderful command of the language.

Joey I think it depends. What do you mean they don't have English class? Do you mean CHALLENGING English classes? If you're looking for that, look into Model Secondary School for the Deaf. Some schools for the Deaf rock actually.

they say that Most deaf people won't read above a third-grade level, and you say doctors need to keep up with time and now it is no longer like that. So what changed? Is it the learning style? If so, maybe school is the blame.

Schools has nothing to do with it, only school boards stuff. next year, they gonna rid driving class in SC. school boards are so stupid

To be honest, I wouldn't criticize that Deaf schools' lack of English classes as a mainstreamed student... when you yourself don't even haven't had mastery of the written English language itself.

Hence the idea that good or poor writers can come from either type of placement.
