How's about NTID? GU is suck too.

GU founded in DC many years before NTID come out in late 1960's.

I think GU deserves to have honor of having Deaf Museum.

FutureGame, GU is suck? How do u know if u haven't visit and/or becoming a student there?

:werd: No matter what Gally is imperfect, therefore, GU deserves to have Deaf museum since Edward Miner Gallaudet was the founder of GU years ago.

I totally agree with lasza and oddball, HISTORY is important and the founders who have paved the way is our * forefathers* of our deaf histories!

Universities, colleges and schools with very large number of Deafies should also have Deaf museums!

WHOOPS I mean deaf MUSEUM and AD Museum- MY BAD

Gallaudet University have a visitor's center in Edward Miner Gallaudet Building and also, there is a Deaf Collections unit in its library, Edward Merrill Library. They collect alot of information like deaf organizations, yearbooks, microfilms and others from around the world.

Actually, Gallaudet University is itself a museum because it has statues, monuments, a historical building and a few others on its campus.

Lastly, Gallaudet University truly deserves to have a Deaf museum because it had played many important roles in both Deaf and hearing communities.

What about Gallaudet U? Don't they have a good Deaf Museum? If not, they should build one in their area!

Deaf258, MSD (Frederick Campus in MD) has two old barracks - used to be dorms for the residential students in mid 1800 until probably early 1900s, and there's a caretaker living there with his wife. They usually give tours. As the story is known, Lewis and Clark started off in these very barracks during their cross country journey. Old dorm stuff, with beds and toys are still intact there.

Yeah, GU has some stuff at the library in the basement and the visitors center. Don't forget the Chapel Hall (where those infamous coffin doors are).

I think there should be a National Museum for Deaf History, probally located in DC. There are many other Museums.

Prostock -- if we get a national museum of deaf history outside the Gally campus -- please enlighten me and tell me WHERE it should be located as its quite crowded now in DC in and around the National Mall -- we are now just finished with the building of the WW2 memorial and the Korea war memorial is now in progress last i heard if im not mistaken -- my thought is WHERE would it be put if the area is already pretty cluttered to begin with!!!

i recall 1 year the National Museum of American History had a floor reserved only for Deaf history and i didnt know of it til AFTER all the exhibits has been taken down and returned to their rightful owners who loaned the items for exhibition

I agree with you, WHERE to put another museum in DC. I really don't know. I wish I knew all the answers. I wish I could say "poof" and more land appears. But I can't.

ofc unless u did have the magical powers LOL -- but yea DC is running out of land to use for memorials now and the memorial/museum commitee is getting pretty picky on which organization can have a memorial/museum built on which piece of land
