HPD: Deaf Man Arrested, Bit Off Man's Ear
Two deaf men got drunk and began arguing with each other using sign language.
That’s what happened in the moments leading up to the arrest of 26-year-old Davon Stewart, Houston Police investigators said.
According to court records, Stewart kept interrupting the conversation of Escandon. Witnesses said Stewart was being loud and abrasive towards other guests at the party.
The situation escalated when Escandon poured a bottle of malt liquor on Stewart’s head to wake him up and ‘listen’ to what he was saying.
Again, both men are deaf.
The fight began when Escandon attempted to escort Stewart out of the party. Escandon held Stewart in a bear hug and Stewart retaliated by biting Escandon’s ear off.
After that particular stunt, Stewart attempted to flee the scene. Stewart’s flight was interrupted when he was hit by an oncoming Dodge Durango.
He was transported to a nearby hospital. When police arrived to apprehend him, Stewart reportedly lied about his identity.
Police handcuffed Stewart to his wheelchair anyway, investigators said. Stewart somehow escaped, he was later arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault.
His bond is set at $30,000.
