At least, I am glad that it didn't happened during the faith healing. You know, slap on the head as a minister would do in the faith healing and out pop the cotton bud and nobody is going to notice the little old cotton bud. :)

Can't fathom how they didn't find this little thing years ago!

Hope the boy can catch up on the delays easily now.

When I was a curious little thing I put in corn kernel in my ear to see if it'll fit and then come out.

Well, it fitted but it didn't come out! Was in pain all night then my sister had to take me to the doctor and was met by mum there. The Dr took out the corn kernel. Sudeenly I felt pain free. LOL.

In the article, the parents had a feeling that something was stuck in the ear canal but yet, the doctor didn't detect another side effect other than the suspected ear wax? They have been to different doctors and hearing specialists over the years and that alone could have told you something else because like SxyPorkie pointed out of the severity of the pain that is lodged in the ear canal. It makes me wonder, did the kid ever say "Hey mom, my ear's hurting bad."? He probably did but the point is - with the severity of the pain, the professionals should have looked at it in another view to find out what was really bothering the boy.

I'm going to play the devil's advocate on this one. I blame the doctors 100 percent. They are paid to do a job and that job was to perform ear inspections. "Probably wax . . . grow out of it . . . " tells me they didn't do squat except collect a check for payment for those visits. Talk about incompetent doctors!! I don't blame the kid, but he sure has dumb parents and even dumber doctors! How much did they charge for each visit??

I've had something similar happen (bad wax built up deep in the ear). My mom complained I was shouting, and so did the rest of my family, so I went to the doctor and he fixed it. He told me to use hydrogen peroxide and warm water. He said that some people get the build-up worse than others do.

I did clean my ears, but apparently Q-tips aren't good enough.

I used to get a lot of ear infections as a kid, according to my mom. I still get ringing and buzzing in my ears sometimes.

But finding a bug in someone's ear, now that sounds worse than just ear wax! :)

I still laugh when I watch Harry Potter and Dumbledore eats the ear wax flavored jelly bean. Now, that is really disgusting!

I know what you mean by that. Here's what I'm thinking - the parents in this case probably "believed" the doctors over their own kid but then again, who knows?

Even if it's the ear wax, They (the doctors) shouldn't be saying "Oh it's wax - let it grow out." I mean, really - Do you think the doctors would know how painful that would be when the ear wax does actually affect a person more than they ever know it to?

A second opinion from another doctor might have helped him sooner. Doctors are human and err. :)

My husband got a second opinion when one doctor told him he needed carpal tunal surgery and he has nerve damage from a severe spinal injury. It turns out he didn't need surgery, just more exercises for his hand.
