Deaf is instantly cured!

 It was a cotton bud the whole time? Let's see if I have something stuck down in my ears, I'll get back to you later.

LOL at Cheri! This is wierd. I wonder how thorough an examination this child had been given over the years that they did not spot something in his ear canal.

And, your title did the trick, Secretblend! Got my attention immediately! LOL.

That's really...bizarre. You would think that they would take the time to do an ear flush (normally they do that if someone has a lot of wax buildup).

I had a friend who IS deaf...but one day she felt that in one of her ears, her hearing has declined so dramatically (she's a professional piano player) After 3 months of "mourning" her loss...her ear started to hurt, so she went to an ENT, and he thought that she has been using q-tips/cotton balls to clean her ears, because it was white. She hasn't. She religiously do not use q-tips (while I do, all the time!). They did an ear cleaning, and discovered that it was in fact all ear wax. Now *that* was gross. And *BOOM* she got her residual hearing back. LOL.

Cheri... did you find anything in your ear??? other cotton balls??? LOL

This is just as asinine as it could be. I mean, come on - a cotton wool bud? That alone could be easily detected by a doctor and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know the difference.

Like Jillio said - Just how thorough the examination was? Obviously it wasn't thorough. It just makes me wonder how can the cotton wool bud be lodged in the ear for so long? was the child even having side affects from it (other than the hearing)?

This is a quote in the article --

"I had always suspected Jerome had stuck something in his ear when he was little and that was causing the problem. But the doctors and hearing specialists said it was wax and he would probably grow out of it."
He sure did grow out of it and it wasn't the wax. I just find this odd because you'd think nowadays, there's technology to detect virtually any kinds of foreign objects in your body.

Edit: Here's a blog about this topic and there's a picture showing of that same cotton wool bud (warning - if you have a "weak" stomach, stay away)

Very misleading title.. mods should change it to more appropriate title.

Good for that boy as now he doesn't have to be cut up to get CI. Good Grief!

Thanks for the link, Jolie. I just have trouble understanding how any doctor could miss something the size of the end of a q-tip stuck in a kids ear canal for 9 years. And, like you said, didn't they ever do an ear flush if they suspected wax? My son had wax build up from his ear molds...the pediatrician flushed his ears every 4-6 months to get rid of the excess.

How is it misleading? he was not able to hear, now he can!

It could happen... it did happened to me when i was 10 yrs .. i complained to my mother of earaches.. so she took me to dr.. found the cotton on my right ear covered with dried blood.. he removed it.. one week later my right ear got bad infection... took me over a month to get over...
I cannot remmy when cotton happened inside my ear.. it has done in deaf school when i complained of earache.. nurse gave me ear drops and cotton.... somehow i played with cotton and got it down deep...

Yeah, but the doctor found it in your ear. The parents took this little boy to the doctor, and the doctor did not find it until it came out on its own 9 years later.:dunno2:

You're welcome, Jillio. That's what I don't get either because I'm baffled about this. In the article, the parents had a feeling that something was stuck in the ear canal but yet, the doctor didn't detect another side effect other than the suspected ear wax? They have been to different doctors and hearing specialists over the years and that alone could have told you something else because like SxyPorkie pointed out of the severity of the pain that is lodged in the ear canal. It makes me wonder, did the kid ever say "Hey mom, my ear's hurting bad."? He probably did but the point is - with the severity of the pain, the professionals should have looked at it in another view to find out what was really bothering the boy.

Oh, I agree. WTF? Why didn't they check his ears for objects in it?

That's weird.

This reminds me of a guy who became deaf in an accident. Years later, he visited a chiropractor. During that session, he became hearing.

Apparently, the accident pinched a nerve in his body that affected his hearing. By popping a certain bone, that nerve was un-pinched... making that nerve work again.
