deaf i support group

A deaf/hoh organization in Michigan planned an I support group few months ago. That means any deaf/hoh people who have iphone, ipad, itouch, etc would get together and talk about their i tech. I don't have an iphone nor do I have an i stuffs so I didn't go. I wonder if the group is going on.

I don't know if other deaf/Deaf organizations plan those kind of things. I kind of wish that there was a deaf/Deaf Android support group. Would be nice to have something like that.
 
That is a little weird to have an apple only based group given that the Deaf/HoH population is so small.

If if makes you feel any better, you're part of this group and we don't have a hardware limitation here.

We started something like that here too! It is informal, every time there's been a get-together, it's always been in a coffee shop. They don't have a name for it but they're calling it something like I-stuff info swap meet. You could always start one up in your area if you know of enough Deaf people and enough who have I-stuff. (I see you said you don't have any I-stuff but maybe some of the tips/tricks would be applicable to your specific phone.) Do you use FB, and if so, does your area have a FB deaf page? We do, where I live, so it just get posted and anyone can show up.
 
I do use Facebook and follow up with Deaf organizations and ASL groups in my area.

I would suppose, build it, they will come. I think that no one really thought about deaf Apple or Android phone support group. I did not even think of one either. Now, that I see that they exists, I would go. I am sure others would too once they know about it.

I don't think that was the point. Despite Apple being so well known they account for less than 15% of smartphone market and recently fell to less than 50% of the tablets in use.

Although you can meet with any number of people you're taking a small population and making it even smaller by restricting it to Apple products.

So? Let anybody meet for any reason they want. Why should a possibly-smaller-than-normal-group discourage people sharing a common interest from meeting?

As long as there are at least a NUMBER (however small or large) of Deafies who would meet up to swap I-stuff info, why discourage it?

There's Deaf snowmobile groups here. Deaf ski groups. Deaf camping groups. Deaf bible study groups. Deaf tech geek groups. Deaf cooking groups. So .. add I-stuff to the mix, can we?

On the other hand, I'd bet that the Apple attraction among the deaf is proportionately higher......as if a reason was needed....lol

A lot of times those groups are more virtual than actual meetups. Those people share common interest, communicate and meet at certain times, but not every week for support.

However, nobody is saying it can't be formed..

What quibble? The thread topic is about an alldeaf member who can't go to a group meetup because he doesn't have the equipment.

I don't think there was anything in my post that was off topic. In fact, other poster's should be replying to that as well instead of taking it off topic, don't you think?

That's fine, but at some point you end up with such a small group it's all questions and no support because there's no one there who knows the answer. While this can happen in larger groups it's much more likely to happen in a smaller groups just through probability.
 
Of course, I would always go to an I swap meeting. However, I chose to not to go. I'm sure that some stuffs with Android applies with iPhone. I'm sure I would make a friend or 2 if I went. However, I would probably have felt left out having an Android not Apple product.

It's a very interesting fact that Apple accounts for less than 15% of sales. Which explains why I've not heard of an I support group in Chicago and surrounding area. I know that Chicago is bigger than Grand Rapids, MI. I find it kind of interesting that deaf organization in Grand Rapids is able to plan one, but Chicago is not able to. I'm sure that deaf groups in Chicago area would plan one if people shows interest in attending or forming a group.

This is ancedotal and from 20 years of owning Macs and knowing a lot of deafie Mac owners and also from being a member of several deaf websites, both of the blog and vlog variety.

Then maybe they would make friends and google answers to those questions together.

That's exactly what it is. We've had fun at these coffee/I-stuff meets. We've shared stuff like how to delete an app, share opinions about different apps (which are good, which are not-so-good, etc.) (The app stuff probably would work just for you with your Android.) and so on.
 
Speaking of friends, how many here on this forum will be attending this summer's 150th anniversary of the residential school for the deaf in Minnesota?
Or even have the latest information?
